Merge Causality: combine strengths from multiple routesMinor spoilers

Check the benefit of fixing one weakness across two routes first. Complete Part 2 to update each record, then preview before paying in Part 3. Paid cross-route fusion and free same-route replay updates are separate operations.

Check gains before paying merge costs

Compare how much two training records add before spending shards to merge. Two routes are enough to assess a weakness; there is no need to replay all four for a small gain.

Stats take the higher value individually; learned moves and certifications merge separately. Train the same character independently on each route. Complete Part 2 after training each version to update the record. In Part 3, choose the active version, review each increase, then pay for a cross-route merge. Same-route replays can update it for free.

Preview gains first if you already have two route records. Replaying Parts 1 and 2 takes time; a cross-route Dante may add only a little casting proficiency. If you want intensive training, develop Halvin’s Strength on one route and Speed on another.

The merge preview places versions from the four routes below, shows proficiency increases with arrows on the right, and lists a 300-shard cost at lower right.

Use two routes to fix one weakness

Use two routes to address one weakness first
  1. 1
Identify the main fighter’s gap, such as enough Strength but low Speed. Compare an existing second training record first and use available records to cover weaknesses.
  2. 2
Focus the second route on that stat or one useful mastery. One Esmeralda example uses armor on one route and winged training for Speed on the other, rather than Defense on both.
  3. 3
Complete Part 2 after training each version to update the clear record.
After the character rejoins in Part 3, inspect the merge preview.

Connect route training and results across the three parts

Part 1: Divide training roles and record what you improved. Starting members are easiest to train on their early home route. Cai’s route can capture and feed horses in batches; Io and Alexandra also bring mounts on other routes, building bonds and gaining growth benefits through combat. Consider Brigand/Warrior for Strength and faster classes for Speed. See individual guides for reclassing thresholds; growths remain random.

Part 2: Finish training, then update the record. Completing the war story is the integration point. You can also return partway through Part 1 to add training, then skip Part 2 for settlement. Play the war story manually if you want more levels or proficiency training.

Part 3: choose the active version first, then fuse the other record. On first meeting the character, select a version and inspect carried items. Then use the Karma menu in the Obelisk Chamber to combine another route’s record for 300 shards per cross-route use. Preview stats, proficiency, learned abilities, and eligibility before paying. Skip the cost if the difference is too small. Buying essential Boons of Salvation first is another use for those shards.

Free integration and paid Merge Causality

Example of taking higher values, using hypothetical numbers: A has Strength 40/Speed 25, while B has Strength 25/Speed 40. The result is 40/40, rather than 65/65 or a forced choice of 40/25. If A learned Ever Vigilant and B learned Crescendo, you can equip either learned ability after combining them, still subject to the current class and ability-slot limits. Stats and learned content combine in two different ways.

Character level, partial class experience before mastery, equipment, and mount ownership follow separate rules. Check the preview first. Even after merging learned certifications, you must unlock the corresponding class entry in Part 3 to use it.

Update records for free by replaying the same route

  1. Complete Parts 1 and 2 once to create an old clear record. In the Obelisk Chamber, find the replay entry for a completed protagonist route and confirm it is that protagonist’s story replay.
  2. Change training on the replay, such as Dietrich using Shido first and Warrior later. Resume from the needed chapter; do not confuse replaying a protagonist route with restarting the current Part 3 map.
  3. Complete Part 2 again to update the record. Same-route integration is free. One merge kept the old Speed and added 4 each to Strength and Defense. Check the Part 3 preview to confirm the active version updated.
  4. Check shards separately for later cross-route merges. Another approach learns abilities and spells on one route to save 300 per character. Replay time and cross-route fees are different costs.

Before restarting, inspect storage, carried weapons, and mount ownership.

Restarting Part 3 may roll back fusion without refunding shards

Before paying to merge, decide whether you will restart the current Part 3 map. Restarting may restore the pre-merge state without refunding shards. Protagonist-route replay is a separate entry and still allows retraining.

For intensive training, divide work across four routes. To fix one weakness, compare two routes first.
