Start with movement, range, and terrain. Labyrinth rests cost ingredients, and pushing straight ahead quickly strains your roster and healing.

For a first introduction, learn movement, range, and forecasts on Normal Casual. Bring ingredients for dungeon rests. If the direct challenge exposes shortages of units and recovery, return to the past to develop the team.
Learn combat rules on Normal Casual
I do not want an unfamiliar game to make me miserable, so I am starting on Normal difficulty in Casual mode. Once inside, I follow the tutorials: press B after moving to cancel, check the combat forecast before attacking, watch the danger area, and use terrain advantages.
Using a bow makes one detail stand out: range 2 does not mean you can hit someone right beside you. Move into a valid attacking position, then check the effectiveness indicator against flying enemies. Understanding these rules explains why moving the same character or changing their weapon changes the forecast.
Resting in a labyrinth costs ingredients
My first labyrinth is more interesting than I expected. Touching an enemy starts a small battle; you can strike first or use auto-battle. You can break crates along the way, and rest points restore HP and spell uses.
Then I check the rest requirement: it costs one ingredient. Finding a rest point does not mean unlimited full recovery. You need something to eat in your bag too. Exploration feels much like an RPG, including taking a wrong turn and circling around to find the exit. The rhythm differs from fighting tactical maps one after another.
Pushing straight ahead strains your healing
When the four character routes appear, I wonder whether I can keep going without returning to the past. I take the few people currently with me and continue to see what happens.
Once I push ahead, HP quickly runs low. I cannot fully heal, and I do not have enough allies. A few more enemy encounters become too much, and I get stopped before even reaching the final target. I know I probably cannot win this attempt; I just want to see what challenging it directly looks like.
After the attempt, I go back to choose a character and start five years earlier. Next, I need to work through the past story and build up the army properly.

Cai's opening and the carriage escort
After returning to
Cai's story, the characters' expressions and story presentation make a good impression. His father, companions, and coming journey gradually come into focus, and the prologue finally gives way to the protagonist's own story.
As the stream approaches its end, another battle arrives: protect a carriage, with temporary allies available to control. I decide to stop here and continue the fight next time.
