Recommended characters for this class
Playing this class
Caladrius doubles Black Magic uses and travels on a mount, making it a mobile black-magic attacker. It uses swords, spears, axes, and black magic, but no white magic. When switching from
Ovate, hand healing duties to someone else first.

Suitable characters
Cai is the most natural fit. To develop Magic and Blaze Arts, take Ornius Rider and Armored Ornius Rider into Caladrius, keeping the mount while adding black magic. Doubled Black Magic uses also make Bolganone last longer.
Sirocco can train Magic in Shaman first, then use a Levin Sword and black magic here. Post-combat healing helps him stay active. A current healer loses white magic on switching. Keep Ovate if he still needs to heal.
Training priorities
First complete Castor's Special Request from Pop at Renown 7 on Cai's route. Once unlocked, prepare Black Magic B, Riding D, and Renown 8. The recommended exam level is 35.
This is ground cavalry, not a flying class. Focus on Black Magic instead of dividing training evenly among its three melee weapons. Class bonuses support Black Magic uses and skill EXP; physical weapons are supplementary. Growth bonuses are +10 percentage points each to Magic, Speed, Defense, and Resistance, with no Strength bonus.
Mastery grants Overtake: each kill gives Movement +1, stacking to +3 until the end of the next turn. It requires kills to build up. It raises Movement rather than letting a unit move again after acting.
When to move on
Overtake is worth mastering and remains usable after reclassing. Chain kills on enemy phase to build Movement, then travel farther next turn.
You can stay until endgame to keep Ornius-mounted black magic. Moving to
High Savant changes to a horse and requires developing a new mount. If your Ornius is already trained, staying saves investment. Switch to a dual-magic class when white magic is needed.
