Playing this class

Ovate combines black magic damage with healing: doubled black magic uses, Magic Hit +5, and access to white magic. Stay in it even during the master-class stage while the team still needs its healing or Warp.

The Ovate exam recommends level 35 and Black Magic B at the lower left. Magic growth changes 45→65 and Defense 35→25 on the right, showing casting gains and the physical durability cost together.

Who suits the class

  • Fabio can train black magic through Diviner → Shaman → Ovate → Druid. Bonaventure follows the same magic line, using wind against fliers and healing when needed as Ovate.
  • Dante moves directly from Shaman to Ovate for Magic growth. Low Defense growth keeps him in the back.
  • Loretta can take Shaman → Ovate, using Salamander for Avoid and Levin Sword for damage. Staying in Shaman at level 35 is another plan if Speed matters more.

How to train

The recommended exam level is 35, with Renown 8 and Black Magic B. Ovate uses black magic, white magic, swords, and gauntlets, with Movement 5. Only black magic uses double; budget healing separately.

Growth modifiers are Magic +20, Dexterity and Resistance +15 each, Speed +5, Defense −10, and Strength −5. Train Black Magic first to keep unlocking spells.

Mastery Bind Speed gives adjacent enemies Speed −3. It can cross a follow-up threshold but does not trigger from distant casting. Do not crowd a mage next to enemies solely for the debuff.

Keep Hong Hua in Ovate while she still needs Warp and Resquia, rather than losing her white magic support on switching.

When to move on

Switch to Druid for higher Magic growth and Hit when specializing in black magic and another ally handles white magic. Otherwise, stay in Ovate: neither Caladrius nor Druid preserves that role.

Do not delay reclassing only for Bind Speed. Stay in Ovate for access to both magic types, rather than waiting for a mastery that needs adjacency.
