Training Ninae from healer to Sentinel

Ninae can begin healing in magic classes, then train Spear for Sentinel to combine frontline anti-magic support with recovery. Her Strength growth of 45% exceeds Magic at 35%, but keep White Magic early. Sentinel’s White Magic uses and healing bonus carry her healing role into the late game.

Start with healing and add Spear A

StageRecommended classRecommended exam timing and benefits
RecruitmentSoldierThe database lists her joining as a level 7 Soldier; switch to a magic class as her level allows
BeginnerDivinerRecommended at level 5, Renown 1, Black Magic or White Magic D; master it for Magic Basics
IntermediatePriestRecommended at level 20, Renown 4, White Magic C; doubles White Magic uses, healing +5; master it for Piety
AdvancedOvateRecommended at level 35, Renown 8, Black Magic B; a class available on every route, with double Black Magic uses and Hit +5; master it for SpdBinding Curse
MasterSentinelRecommended at level 45, Spear A; doubles White Magic uses, healing +10, Combat Arts +3; master it for Resolute Stance
DivineThe TridentSpear S and its specific Divine qualification; White-Magic Zenith, healing +10, Combat Arts +3; master it for Divine Wall

The key to this route is to heal while preparing White Magic and Black Magic during the Diviner and Priest stages. For the advanced stage, use Ovate, whose exam is available on every route, without needing to unlock Guardian first. You must train the Spear A needed at the end separately through arena training or guidebooks; casting spells alone will not meet that requirement.

Sentinel’s Resistance growth modifier of +15 further improves Ninae’s anti-magic strength. White Magic uses and healing bonuses keep her healing on the front line. The Trident deepens the spear/White Magic role afterward, requiring Spear S, a Divine item, and the slot. Even after level 45, gather all conditions before switching.

Troubadour uses a mount to stay alive

On Cai's route, you can use Troubadour as her advanced class and ride a Monoceros. At bond level 5, the mount adds 3 Luck and +10% Resistance growth, helping your healer handle magical threats. Its purpose is to improve mobility and survival; her main role is still casting spells.

Capture unlocks in Chapter 5 of Cai's route, and at bond level 5 the mount provides a total growth modifier of +25%. Without a rare specimen, wild individuals of the same species have the same total growth, so you can start feeding and raising one in battle right away. Troubadour also requires separate Riding training and its class qualification. It cannot wield spears, so treat Spear A as preparation for returning to Sentinel later, rather than part of its current attack menu.

Magic, Resistance, and HP matter more than Speed

When checking her growth around level 40 near the end of Part 1, prioritize Magic, Resistance, HP, and Strength. Her personal Magic growth is only 35%, making it a likely cause of insufficient healing. Her 45% Resistance growth, combined with Spirits’ Voice, gives her both durability and a Hit and Avoid advantage against mages. HP helps her survive attacks that get through, while 45% Strength growth lays the foundation for using spears on the front line later.

If Speed, Luck, or Charm falls below the expected values for this route, you do not need to disrupt the build just to catch up. She is not a unit who relies on follow-up attacks for consecutive kills. Her 50% Luck growth makes it relatively easy to raise naturally, while Charm mainly improves gambit Hit. Normal expected Dexterity and Defense are enough, and her Bloodmark also provides a 10% chance of Hit +30 when attacking. This is still a chance-based bonus, so check the actual forecast before attacking. If her Magic falls behind, train her on another route and use Merge Causality to take the higher value for each stat.

Strong against mages, but healing depends on class

HPStrengthMagicSpeedDexterityDefenseResistanceLuckCharmTotal
45%45%35%35%45%35%45%50%40%375%

Her value is healing from Part 1 and using spears alongside recovery once developed. Spear, White Magic, and Riding are strengths; Bow is a weakness, making the spear/White Magic endpoint natural. High Resistance and Luck, plus Hit and Avoid +10 against mages from her personal skill, are clear advantages.

Her weaknesses are a 35% Speed growth that makes follow-up attacks hard to secure, and a 35% Magic growth that limits healing without bonuses. Magic Heal +10 and double White Magic uses from Sentinel are important parts of the training plan. Switching to an armored mounted class that cannot cast loses those benefits for her role. Her negotiation difficulty is "High," so leave time to recruit and train her too.

Once you meet your route's requirements, give her Paradise Fish during negotiation to recruit her. You can find this fish by exploring Lake Brontes in the south of the world map. Preparing it first saves you a trip to look for fish after meeting the thresholds.

She prefers manuscripts and travelers' sayings

She likes pitiful people, talking with spirits, commemorative necklaces, and looking at the sky.

In Pale Raven conversations, choose "Spread your wings" when she says the spirits are interested in you; "Nod" when she wants help chasing away bugs; "Tilt your head" when she worries that her speech is strange and often misunderstood; "Nod" when she says she likes being alone and asks if you do too; and "Look at the Sky" when she invites you to watch the clouds together.

Keep two-space anti-magic support near the team

Spirits’ Voice requires the enemy to use magic and gives Ninae Hit and Avoid +10 during that combat. At level 35, Spirits' Guidance+ grants the same effect to allies within 2 spaces, helping nearby front-line units face mages together. These 10-point bonuses do not apply against physical weapons.

Her proficiency skills also include Knightly Senses: Avoid +10 against enemies using spears; Knight’s Vanguard: Protection +2 when initiating combat as cavalry; Read the Winds: Avoid +10 against enemies using bows; Threaten: adjacent enemies suffer Critical -5; and Armored Move: Movement +1 for armored units. Each skill has its own weapon or unit-type conditions. You cannot apply the same set of effects unchanged to spear-and-White-Magic infantry, Armored Ornius Rider, and armored builds.

Holy Spear trades durability for healing

White Magic includes Nosferatu and Heal. Nosferatu has 8 uses, Might 1, Hit 80, Weight 8, and Range 1–2, healing half the damage dealt on hit. Heal has 10 uses, healing Might 10, and Range 1. She cannot cast in her joining Soldier class; learn the spells and switch to a class permitting White Magic first.

Combat ArtDurability costMight / Hit / Critical modifiersMain effect
Wrath Strike2+4/+10/0Improves sword Hit
Secret Sword20/0/0Deals at least 10 damage
Smash2+4/0/+5Increases Critical
Hurl3+3/+20/0Attacks from 2 spaces; requires an axe with Range 1–2
Tempest Spear2+4/+10/0Improves spear Hit
Guardian Thrust4+3/0/0Protection +3 during combat
Holy Spear6+8/0/0Restores a small amount of the user's HP after combat
Brilliant Strike5+5/0/0Resilience +7 after a kill until the next player phase
Lend Strength0—Adjacent ally gains Strength +2 until the next player phase

All the above actions have Range 1 except Hurl. Holy Spear combines an attack with healing, but costs 6 durability. Use the forecast to decide whether to finish an enemy with the cheaper Tempest Spear or pay durability to restore HP. You do not need to use an expensive Combat Art every time.

Support conversation partners

Her support conversation partners are the Promised One, Cai, Peter, Lysander, Sirocco, Simon, Orchel, Diego, and Peppe. Her Japanese voice actor is Yu Sasahara, whose notable roles include Emilico in Shadows House, Puniru in Puniru Is a Kawaii Slime, and Yuki Kuroiwa in Diary of Our Days at the Breakwater.

Prioritize spear and White Magic support

Train White Magic to B for Physic, then follow Guardian → Sentinel. Combining spears and healing is more dependable than chasing follow-up damage.

For dedicated tanking, use armored classes to build Defense, master Castle Knight for Intercept, then change to War Elephant. This requires more investment, and War Elephant loses spear/White Magic healing.

View the route in the simulator

Sentinel is shown at the upper left, Spear A and White Magic B below center, and Spirits’ Voice and Spirits’ Guidance+ on the right. Verify both training goals on her status page for the spear/White Magic route.

Class progression by stage

Reach White Magic B first in Part 1

Focus on Spear and White Magic, reaching White Magic B first. Physic provides dependable value without waiting until she can follow up. Train Spear B for Guardian, then A for Sentinel. Around level 20, continue through an available mounted spear class; Armored Ornius Rider requires Riding D and Spear or Axe C. If recruited late, continue from her actual level and class rather than restarting as Soldier.

At level 35 with Spear B, confirm Guardian is unlocked before changing. Guardian combines spears and White Magic. Its Part 1 unlock involves Dietrich-route challenges, so do not assume it is available on a first Cai route. If locked, heal in a magic class or stay mounted and train; mounted classes cannot cast. Another option moves from Armored Ornius Rider to Wing Soldier as a magic tank, requiring Flying training and still preventing spellcasting.

For tanking, train Heavy Armor early. At level 20, Heavy Armor E+ and Spear or Axe C prepare Armored Knight; at 35, Heavy Armor D and Spear or Axe B prepare Dreadnought. Use classes to improve physical Defense while her own anti-magic strengths handle spells. Heavy Armor D teaches Armored Move, granting Movement +1 while armored; Heavy Armor C teaches Resistant Armor, granting Resistance +5 while armored.

Another option is long-term Charioteer training with a Ferghanan Horse from level 20. Train Bow C separately and prepare the special horse and bond. Charioteer builds stats but cannot heal with White Magic. With investment across routes, use armor training to improve Defense too.

Prioritize healing and anti-magic support in Part 2

As Guardian, prioritize Physic and anti-magic support, using spears when free. She can focus entirely on healing in Part 2; high Resistance does not justify sending her into physical enemy groups.

After level 35, her level ability shares Spirits’ Voice with allies within 2 tiles. The enemy must still use magic when the beneficiary fights. This is not permanent Hit and Avoid +10 against all enemies. Move her to cover core units about to fight magic users before those units act.

On the armor route, keep improving current Defense. For a Part 3 War Elephant, plan Spear or Axe A, Heavy Armor C, and Riding C ahead of time so both exams' requirements are ready.

Choose spear/White Magic or War Elephant in Part 3

Choose the finished role your team needs
Sentinel spear/White Magic support
  • Path and requirements: unlocks after clearing Segment 1; level 45, Spear A, and at least White Magic B.
  • What remains and changes: alternate spear combat and Physic by turn.
Master Castle Knight before War Elephant
  • Obtain Intercept before changing to War Elephant. Take the Castle Knight exam at level 45 with Heavy Armor C and Spear or Axe A, then actually reach mastery for fixed damage reduction. Passing alone is insufficient. Next meet War Elephant requirements, including Riding C.
  • What remains and changes: combine Intercept's reduction with War Elephant tanking. War Elephant cannot retain ordinary weapons or spear/White Magic healing duties.
Bishop to Wiseman for dedicated White Magic
  • Path and requirements: Bishop into Wiseman; level 45 and White Magic A.
  • What remains and changes: focus training and duties on White Magic; spear damage is no longer a main role.

A full multiroute merge of both defenses requires greater investment.

For spear/White Magic, bring learned healing and spear arts suited to the target, choosing equipment for survival through the next round. War Elephant focuses on tanking abilities such as Intercept, with its mount determined by the class.

Support against mages or block paths as a War Elephant

Keep the spear/White Magic build near mages and outside physical enemy groups. She helps allies fight magic users and provides ranged healing when they are hurt. High Resistance alone cannot handle a mixed physical/magical surround. When advancing quickly, check that she can reach the main force next turn rather than clustering everyone just to share the aura.

The War Elephant route takes on tanking duties. Check the group's damage in combat forecasts and confirm damage reduction applies before assigning her to block the way. Keep healing and attackers behind her. She blocks the path; the back line handles kills.

General class requirements: the Guardian exam on the Spear and White Magic route recommends level 35 and Renown 8, and requires Spear B. Ninae’s own exam preview and her Sentinel stage still need checking.

Master Castle Knight before changing to War Elephant

  • The anti-magic aura requires an enemy using magic. It gives no Hit or Avoid bonus against physical attackers.
  • Check Guardian access on a first Cai route. Use the current class as a bridge if it is locked.
  • Obtain Intercept before War Elephant. Passing the Castle Knight exam without mastering it is insufficient.
  • War Elephant cannot cast Physic. The two endpoints use different weapons and magic; reassign healing after changing class.
  • Multiroute merging costs another training run. A single route lacks the extra Resistance or Defense growth from that run.
