Playing this class

Armored Ornius Rider suits midgame spear/axe users who need mobility without giving up Speed. It crosses obstacles and adds 10 percentage points each to Speed and Defense growth, with no Strength bonus. Future fliers can also learn Sense Threat here first.

Armored Ornius Rider requirements and growths: Riding D plus Axe C or Spear C at lower left; the right shows Speed and Defense +10 percentage points each, with Strength unchanged.

Who benefits

  • Cai can continue from Ornius Rider into Caladrius, then High Savant in the Promised One’s story. Start Black Magic and Sword training along the way if aiming for swords and Black Magic.
  • Nydine’s personal ability requires mounting, so Ornius Rider → Armored Ornius Rider → Forest Knight preserves mobility.
  • Mikaela can learn Avoid against super-effective attacks here before entering Wing Soldier to handle mages.

Training

Renown 4 opens Specialty exams, with recommended level 20. Requirements are Riding D and either Spear C or Axe C. It uses swords, spears, and axes, with base Movement 6. Axe, Spear, Riding, and Flying experience each gain +1. Magic growth is −5, so Black Magic Cai should treat it as a transition. It can train Flying but remains cavalry itself.

Mastery Sense Threat grants Avoid +20 for combat when the enemy’s attack is effective or super-effective against you. It does not reduce effective damage, so a hit remains dangerous.

When to leave

For later flight, take Sense Threat with you to help against super-effective attacks such as bows. Cai can enter Caladrius for Black Magic or Dragoon for physical combat. Prepare the next certification around the intended weapon.
