Training Lysander for wyvern and spear cavalry routes

Lysander can train Spear from Ornius Rider through Armored Ornius Rider and Bardinger into Bau Lord, using flying mobility and Avoid on initiation to contribute on offense. Speed is already a strength. Pay closer attention to whether Strength and Dexterity keep pace; reaching distant enemies means little if he cannot hit or defeat them reliably.

Bardinger bridges the route to Bau Lord

Train mounted classes at the beginner and intermediate tiers, then use Bardinger, available in every route, to build Spear at the advanced tier before moving to Bau Lord with Movement 7. Spear, Axe, Riding, and Flying are all strengths, so this route’s exams make use of his best subjects.

ClassRequirements to prepareWhat this tier addresses
Ornius RiderRecommended level 5, Renown 1; Riding E+, Spear D or Axe DTrain spear cavalry from his starting class; master Offense Basics
Armored Ornius RiderRecommended level 20, Renown 4; Riding D, Spear C or Axe CContinue mounted training; master Sense Threat
BardingerRecommended level 35, Renown 8; Riding C, Spear B or Sword BQualify with Spear and retain cavalry mobility; master Aegis
Bau LordRecommended level 45; Flying C, Spear A or Axe AHandle terrain with flight; master Ambush
The CavalierRiding A, Spear S or Axe S or Sword S; obtain a Divinium SaddleReturn to cavalry for the divine route, gain Golden Ride, and master Divine Dexterity

If Dragoon is already unlocked on Cai’s route, it can replace Bardinger at Advanced tier and continue into Bau Lord. This branch starts flying at Advanced tier; otherwise, keep Bardinger as the transition.

Build Strength first on an intermediate Ornius mount

During the Armored Ornius Rider stage in Cai’s route, you can use a Red-Feathered Meganius. At bond 5, it adds 3 Strength, 1 Dexterity, and 1 Defense to his stats, plus 15% Strength growth, 5% Dexterity growth, and 5% Defense growth. These bonuses directly address Lysander’s lower Strength and Dexterity.

Bardinger changes his mount type to a horse; switch to a Ferghanan Horse afterward. Animal capture begins in Chapter 5 of Cai’s route. At bond 5, animals of the same species have a total growth bonus of 25%. You can raise a wild specimen of the same species until you find a rare one, rather than leaving this stage of training idle while you wait.

Fast enough still needs accurate enough

Around level 40, near the end of Part 1, prioritize Strength, Speed, Dexterity, and HP. Strength at 40% and Dexterity at 35% are low. The main concerns are whether each hit does its job and whether his Hit is dependable. His 50% Speed growth helps him gain follow-ups and evasion, while HP gives him room to take a hit after flying into engagement range.

HPStrengthMagicDexteritySpeedDefenseResistanceLuckCharm
45%40%25%35%50%40%25%30%30%

Racing Attack grants Avoid +15 when he initiates combat. Combined with his Speed growth, this points him toward actively closing in and attacking. Below-average Magic, Resistance, Luck, or Charm are not the first priorities for this physical route. In particular, address his weak 25% Resistance growth by staying clear of magical enemies’ threat ranges.

If Strength falls short, you can also train Lysander in another protagonist’s story and use Merge Causality in Part 3 to take the higher value for each stat. Judge his training around the four priorities above. Low rolls in stats he does not use are no reason to start his training over.

Flight, Speed, and Defense make his mobile engagements useful, but low Strength and Dexterity can leave him able to reach a target without securing the kill.

Stack Speed through kills, then use Flying Spear

At level 35, Accelerate+ grants Speed +2 for each enemy defeated, up to +10 on the current map, lasting until the map ends. Its stacks require kills. Keep it separate from Racing Attack, which works from the first combat, to understand the difference between his opening performance and his performance after getting started.

Learnable proficiency abilities also include Spear Mastery, which grants Hit and Avoid +10 and Attack +3 while wielding a spear; Knightly Senses, which grants Avoid +10 against spear users; Knight’s Vanguard, which grants Protection +2 when cavalry initiates; and Cavalry Move, which reduces cavalry terrain movement costs by 1, to a minimum of 1.

While flying, use Read the Winds for Avoid +10 against bow users and Flitting Flier+ for Attack Speed +4 on flying initiation. Airfighter grants Hit +5 on flying initiation. Other learnable abilities include Distraction+ for adjacent enemy Hit −5, Frontline Gambit for Attack +5 after an offensive Gambit until the next player phase, infantry Evasion and Just-in-Time Defense, and armored Armored Leap and Spearblock. The latter abilities have class restrictions and cannot all work while flying.

Negotiation requires handing over five Iron Spear. Buy them over successive restocks at the imperial capital’s weapon shop or other vendors. Meeting the Renown requirement does not mean your preparations are complete. In Theodora’s route, he joins directly after the Chapter 4 story event without requiring these negotiation items. This route has the simplest recruitment process if you want to use him early.

Nod when he talks about watching the sky

Lysander enjoys watching the sky and dining with women. He likes Dagda Beard Grass, Horse-Grooming Kit, Mane Ornament, and Wing Fletching. He has a neutral reaction to Garum and Ginji Cervi.

In Pale Raven conversations, choose “Spread your wings” when he talks about surpassing his father and fighting alongside battle-hardened warriors. Choose “Flap your wings” when he says looking at you is like gazing at the sky. Choose “Nod” when he asks whether watching the sky is a hobby people would laugh at.

Build Strength and Hit, then finish enemies in flight

Build Lysander's Strength and Hit first, then use an unlocked Dragoon → Bau Lord route to finish enemies. Kills steal Speed; he is weaker before his first kill.

Lysander gets faster with each kill. His weak point is securing the first one. Use Brigand if Strength is lacking, and take Archer mastery if Hit is low. From level 35, he needs five kills to reach +10 Speed. The Pugilist-to-armored evasion route is a separate, expensive option.

Training route by stage

Part 1: Build Strength and Hit

Build a physical foundation on the ground before flying. With 40% Strength growth and 35% Dexterity growth, good Speed can still leave him unable to damage or hit enemies. No kill means no Speed gain.

  1. At level 20 and Renown 4, consider Brigand for Strength. It requires Sword or Axe C. He has an Axe strength and a Sword weakness, so prioritize Axe. If he still lacks Strength, Warrior is available at level 35 and Renown 8 with Sword, Axe, or Gauntlet B. Let his damage determine how far to go; neither class must be fully mastered.
  2. Another early route is Soldier at level 10, Armored Knight at 20, then Dragoon at 35. This builds physical stats on foot. Keep training Spear and Flying alongside it so he can pass the exam when his level is ready. This is an alternative to Brigand, rather than an extra chain of mandatory steps.
  3. If Hit is low, consider Archer mastery for Crescendo. Archer requires level 20, Renown 4, and Bow C. Once learned, each kill grants +3 Hit, up to +30 for that map. Kills can then stack both Hit and Speed, but teammates still need to soften the first enemies. Maximum Hit stacks are not his starting stats.
The in-game preparation screen for an Armored Knight transition shows Lysander's current class, level, and physical durability on the left. The top right shows Spear and Heavy Armor progress; Flying needs separate training before switching to flight.
The in-game preparation screen for an Armored Knight transition shows Lysander's current class, level, and physical durability on the left. The top right shows Spear and Heavy Armor progress; Flying needs separate training before switching to flight.

For the flying route, prepare Flying C and Spear or Axe B. Dragoon also needs level 35, Renown 8, and the relevant instruction unlock on Cai's route. If it is locked on your first route, stay in an available Strength-building class.

Part 2: Finish enemies to stack Speed

Use flight to reach the back line if Dragoon is unlocked; otherwise continue his existing physical route. Let teammates break tough enemies while he takes reliable kills on mages, archers, and other vulnerable targets.

Starting the improved Speed-stealing effect at level 35
Speed +2Per kill
Speed +10Per-map cap; plan engagements around full stacks only after at least five kills

These values apply to the level 35 upgrade.

Secure the first few kills: fix low Hit, improve Strength if damage is short, then consider fully stacked Avoid. Hit, HP, and Avoid against spears are options, but no single complete final loadout is established. Recheck Attack Speed and enemy counters when switching between weapons of different Weight.

A specific mount, battalion, and blessing package is not confirmed. Without Cai's special mount, exclude those bonuses when calculating expected stats.

Part 3: Flight or armored evasion

Continue flying into Bau Lord. It requires level 45, Spear or Axe A, and Flying C, and unlocks after the first segment of the Salvation arc. The goal remains crossing terrain to find kills. Confirm he can defeat his first target before stacking Speed.

Another approach is Pugilist → Ranger → Heavy Armor S → Great Knight on Black Horse. The early fist class builds Strength and Speed; Ranger continues the foundation, then cavalry combines evasion with physical durability. The early development still matters; switching to Great Knight alone does not complete the build.

  • Pugilist requires level 20, Renown 4, and Gauntlet C. Ranger requires level 35, Renown 8, Sword or Bow B, and a route-specific unlock.
  • Great Knight requires level 45, Spear or Axe A, Heavy Armor D, Riding D, and its unlock. Heavy Armor S is an additional build target far beyond the exam's D requirement.
  • Lysander is weak in Gauntlet, Sword, and Heavy Armor. Black Horse's specific acquisition and substitutes, plus the official name of the core Heavy Armor S skill, remain unverified. Resolve these requirements before choosing this route.

You can also use The Cavalier with Red Hare, but prepare its qualifications, mount, and resources separately from the armored build. Whether fixed +10 Speed and kill-based Speed share a cap still lacks cross-verification; do not add them together as +20 Speed.

Teammates weaken targets; Lysander finishes them for Speed

Have a teammate lower a vulnerable enemy's HP, then let Lysander finish it to gain Speed before attacking later targets. Kills trigger the Speed gain, so choose reliable kills first.

Initiation Avoid +15 only applies when he initiates; it does not work on enemy phase. When flying into the back line, check nearby archers and enemy ranges covering the landing tile. Before Speed stacks build up, do not fight high-Defense enemies alone.

Recruitment

He joins through the story on Theodora's route. Cross-route recruitment requires Bond 3 with your chosen protagonist, the relevant Renown, and five Iron Spears. Renown thresholds differ by route. See Lysander recruitment.

Speed and Hit both start with the first kill

  • Assuming +10 Speed from deployment. Even after level 35, he needs five kills. Full stacks describe his activated state.
  • Assuming maximum Hit stacks too. Crescendo also starts with kills; he still needs help with the first hit.
  • Treating a Great Knight exam passed with Heavy Armor D as a finished armored evasion build. That plan needs Heavy Armor S and earlier training, a much larger investment.
  • Training Riding, Flying, and Heavy Armor all at once. Pick a role first, then train for that route. Budget carefully for weak proficiencies.
