Recommended characters for this class

Playing this class

Bardinger suits cavalry continuing with spears and swords: base Movement 6, horse access, and Strength and Resistance growth +10 each. It adds no Speed or Dexterity growth, so do not expect promotion to fix follow-ups or Hit.

Who benefits

  • When Cai needs a cavalry front-line role, take Light Cavalry into Bardinger, then Orichaldia. This suits a durability-focused build.
  • Gaitz starts in Light Cavalry. Use Bardinger if Cataphract is locked, train Heavy Armor alongside it, then continue to Great Knight.
  • Esmeralda can use it for cavalry mobility and durability. Aegis helps with incoming magic; she can still continue to Dreadnought afterward.
  • Lysander can finish enemies using mounted mobility. Without developed Strength, do not assign him tough targets.

Training

Prepare for the exam at the recommended level 35, Renown 8, Riding C, and either Spear or Sword B. It uses axes, spears, and swords, so continue an existing weapon. It also grants Combat Arts +2 and Mount/Dismount.

Aegis mastery has a 20% chance to halve damage only when taking a magical attack. Against multiple mages, calculate damage assuming it never activates; do not rely on it to charge a group of mages.

When to move on

Switch once the next cavalry class's qualifications are ready; you need not wait for Aegis. If still training Sword and Riding, Forest Knight is another transition. Aegis is unreliable, so a dedicated detour offers little return.

For conventional spear cavalry, Io can follow Light Cavalry → Bardinger → Orichaldia.
