Playing this class

Cataphract gives an armored frontliner a horse for travel and access to both armor and mount skills. HP and Strength growth each gain +15 and Defense +10, at the cost of Speed -10 and Resistance -5. It remains a physical frontliner.

Cataphract's exam panel shows Heavy Armor E+, Riding D, and either Axe or Spear B at the bottom left. Strike-Last Def +3 and Pavise mastery appear on the right.

Who benefits

  • Tobias has Strength and Defense suited to armor, plus a Riding strength. A horse helps compensate for lacking Armored Move.
  • Nathan can build Heavy Armor from Bardinger for mounted armored tanking, then continue to Great Knight. Gaitz and Io also have Light Cavalry → Cataphract → Great Knight routes. Seteth can fill the same role through Light Cavalry → Cataphract → Great Knight.

Esmeralda can use it to keep armored durability while riding for travel. Armored movement skills still work here.

Training

Complete every military preparation request before Chapter 8 begins on Theodora's route. Prepare level 35 and Renown 8 for the exam: Heavy Armor E+, Riding D, and either Axe B or Spear B. The class uses swords, spears, and axes.

Movement is 5. Stairs slow mounted units, so compare reach after dismounting. Both armor and cavalry effectiveness weaknesses remain. Defense +3 applies when enemies initiate; Pavise mastery has a 20% chance to halve physical damage. Position to survive without Pavise activating.

Cataphract's class-type description at the top right lists both cavalry and armor, each with corresponding effectiveness weaknesses.

When to move on

For continued mounted armor, train Heavy Armor and switch to Great Knight around level 45. Pavise is extra insurance; the whole team need not master it. If staying in Cataphract, armored movement skills and Cai-route mounts make more of its dual class traits.
