Sentinel to boost Res while also using white magic, then finish in The Trident.
Reach Heavy Armor D, then switch to Great Knight; on Cai’s route, a Ferghanan Horse is an option.
Guardian must first be unlocked on Theodora’s route; gain White Magic access in an advanced class early, giving up Dreadnought’s high DefGrowth.
Training Seteth for spear tanking and mounted combat
Seteth works well as a spear frontline unit who takes hits and counters:
Soldier →
Armored Knight →
Dreadnought →
Sentinel, with
The Trident as a possible endpoint. He has a chance to strike first on enemy phase, but Strength, HP, and Defense remain the core. A 50% chance to attack first cannot replace enough bulk to survive.
Build physical bulk through armored spear classes
Beginner Soldier is recommended from level 5 and Renown 1. Move into Armored Knight at level 20 and Renown 4, Dreadnought at level 35 and Renown 8, then prepare Sentinel from level 45. For a Divine route, train Spear S for The Trident. Every stage also needs its proficiencies and class unlock before the exam.
Dreadnought is the advanced pick because every route can obtain it, and its Defense growth modifier of +30 builds physical durability through the middle stages. If
Guardian is already unlocked on
Theodora's route, you can use Guardian as the bridge instead. Sentinel adds Defense growth +10 and Resistance +15, further improving his ability to engage enemies while retaining the healing value of White Magic.
Master Soldier for
Defense Basics. Armored Knight and Dreadnought provide Great Counter and Focused Counter, respectively. Finish their mastery along the route to obtain benefits you can carry into other classes. Sentinel mastery grants
Resolute Stance, followed later by
Divine Wall from The Trident mastery. These are goals for different stages, not a complete set you can equip at level 20.
Use a Ferghanan Horse for Defense on Cai's route
On
Cai's route, you can instead choose
Light Cavalry at the intermediate stage, ride a Ferghanan Horse, and move into
Bardinger. This retains mounted mobility while improving physical bulk through growths. At mount bond Lv5, you gain Strength +2, Defense +2, and 10 percentage points of Defense growth.
Animal capture unlocks in Chapter 5 of Cai's route. You can start building bond as soon as you find a wild animal of the same species. At bond Lv5, animals of the same species provide the same total growth bonus of 25 percentage points. You do not need to halt all training while waiting for a rare individual. This branch offers mounted growth bonuses and mobility. When you return to a ground class, reassess which skills work in your current class.
Four stats determine his frontline performance
Around the end of Part 1, at roughly level 40, focus on Strength, Defense, HP, and Dexterity. Strength makes counters hurt, Defense and HP keep him alive when his first-strike effect fails, and Dexterity supports spear Hit and Crit. His personal skill
Ready for Battle has a 50% chance to let him strike first in his first combat on enemy phase. He needs both the ability to attack first and the bulk to take an attack in the normal combat order.
His Speed growth is 40%. This route does not focus on securing follow-ups, so staying close to the expected value is enough. If Magic, Resistance, Luck, or Charm falls below expectations, do not change the main plan just to make every stat look tidy. Magic and Charm are not priorities here. Luck affects Crit and Dodge, while Sentinel's growth modifier can continue to improve Resistance. If you trained Seteth on another route, Merge Causality takes the higher value in each stat, letting the other route make up for poor Strength growth this time.
His personal growth totals 360%, with Strength 45%, Dexterity 45%, and Defense 40%, favoring balance. He excels in Spear, Axe, Authority, and Flying, but has no outstanding offensive stat. His Bloodmark only triggers 3% of the time and cannot provide reliable extra damage. Training costs and difficult recruitment also matter. His overall rating is C: he can frontline, but lacks a standout strength that offsets those costs.
Prepare your hunting party before negotiating
| Route | First appearance | Support | Renown | Next step |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Cai | Part 1 Chapter 3 | 3 | 6 | Difficult negotiation |
Dietrich | Cannot recruit | — | — | — |
Theodora | Part 1 Chapter 5 | 3 | 6 | Difficult negotiation |
Leda | Part 1 Chapter 4 | 3 | 10 | Difficult negotiation |
The negotiation requires traveling to Pasithea Province in the southwest of the world map and defeating a designated target on Orgas Mountain Path. The area's recommended level is 35. The quest has a deadline after you accept it; missing it costs you this recruitment opportunity. Train your core team first, then accept the quest and plan the expedition, instead of starting to patch up your roster afterward.
Visit the market in Royal Capital Breston and spend 100 gold on Pasithea Map to open the road to the mountain path. If Chiron Station is unlocked, a shared carriage shortens the trip. Otherwise, travel southwest from the Imperial Capital Dagsion. Every enemy in the encounter is sword infantry. Focus your party on spears and Black Magic; recruiting Seteth does not require making the whole team armored.
Counter skills have separate conditions
Diadem of Balance has a 3% chance on attack to prevent enemy counters.
Pass Judgment+ adds Attack +7 when the Bloodmark activates. Ready for Battle, the Bloodmark, and Pass Judgment trigger separately; neither first strike nor extra damage is guaranteed.
| Skill | Conditions and effects |
|---|---|
Knightly Senses | Avoid +10 against enemies wielding spears. |
Read the Winds | Avoid +10 against enemies wielding bows. |
Flitting Flier | Attack Speed +2 when initiating combat in a flying class. |
Distraction | Adjacent enemies suffer Hit -3. |
Train these skills to their required proficiency ranks; he has not learned everything on joining. Flitting Flier specifically requires a flying class, so do not count its Attack Speed on a Sentinel setup.
| Combat art | Durability | Might / Hit | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
Subdue | 1 | +0 / +0 | Leaves the enemy at 1 HP if they had at least 2 HP; cannot follow up. |
Grounder | 3 | +3 / +0 | Effective against fliers. |
Tempest Spear | 2 | +4 / +10 | Improves spear accuracy. |
Protective Spear | 4 | +5 / +0 | Dodge +20 during this combat. |
Protective Storm | 6 | +5 / +0 | Physical durability +7 during this combat. |
Spike | 2 | +4 / +10 | Improves axe accuracy. |
These arts all have range 1 and Critical modifier 0. Choose for the current target’s Hit, critical prevention, or durability needs. Also check whether the current class permits axes before using axe arts.

Balanced Strength, Speed, and Defense favor a mounted transition into Dragoon → Bau Lord for offense across terrain.
Recruit early on Cai’s route for mount growth. If healing is needed, train Guardian or Sentinel separately; develop the two roles independently. Check joining stats and unlocked classes first. Calculate survival assuming neither the first-battle 50% initiative nor the 3% Bloodmark triggers.

Training route by stage
Exams require proficiency, Renown, and class unlocks. Continue from existing qualifications after late recruitment, rather than repeating Soldier or Ornius Rider.
Part 1: Ride first, then fly
Start from existing Spear training, moving through Ornius Rider → Armored Ornius Rider before preparing Dragoon. The first two train Riding, while Dragoon separately needs Flying. Schedule Flying training while riding an Ornius, and build bonds with mounts already obtained.
- 1Continue into
Ornius Rider according to joining level:Level 5, Renown 1, Riding E+, and Spear or Axe D. This is an early mounted option, not a stage late recruits must repeat. - 2Train Riding and the main weapon before
Armored Ornius Rider:Level 20, Renown 4, Riding D, and Spear or Axe C. Continue the same weapon. Avoid against effective attacks requires mastering Sense Threat first. - 3Apply for
Dragoon once unlocked:Level 35, Renown 8, Flying C, and Spear or Axe B. Use its mobility to maneuver. Mastering Besieger adds Hit against enemies on favorable terrain.
Both Cai's and Theodora's routes have Dragoon unlock leads with different completion conditions. Continue an existing mounted class until unlocked. Meet one of Spear or Axe first rather than splitting training merely because both are strengths. Carry melee and available throwing weapons for flank attacks. Future masteries do not belong in the current loadout.
Part 2: Continue the chosen route
If already a Dragoon, keep training the main weapon and Flying. If not unlocked, stay mounted; level 35 still requires the unlock.
For physical builds, calculate enemy-phase damage without Ready for Battle activating, then decide how many enemies he can face. It grants only a 50% chance to strike first in the first enemy-phase combat. If an uncounterable ranged enemy reaches him first, do not expect initiative in every later fight. The Bloodmark's 3% counter prevention and level 35 Pass Judgment+ extra attack are bonuses too.

Part 3: Bau Lord or Sentinel
The flying route continues to
Bau Lord: recommended level 45, Flying C, and Spear or Axe A, unlocked after Salvation Section 1. Keep the trained spear or axe and add Pilum for range. Flying mounted stages cannot have Battalions assigned. See Battalion assignment restrictions.
Train spears with White Magic separately if healing is needed. Guardian uses spears and White Magic. You can also build Defense in armor before Sentinel, but Dreadnought cannot heal.
| Spear/White Magic stage | Recommended exam point and training | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
Armored Knight for Defense | Level 20, Renown 4; Heavy Armor E+, Spear or Axe C | Stat-building stage without White Magic |
Dreadnought for further Defense, or unlocked Guardian | Both recommend level 35 and Renown 8; Dreadnought needs Heavy Armor D and Spear or Axe B, Guardian needs Spear B | Dreadnought cannot cast; Guardian combines spears and White Magic |
Sentinel for full support duties | Level 45, Spear A, unlocked after the Salvation arc's first segment | Keeps spears; White Magic still needs personal training |
Heal at White Magic D, Resquia at C, Regenera at B, and Warp at A are separate goals. Decide which tool is needed before investing. Bau Lord cannot cast White Magic. Even after learning Warp, he must change to a class that can use it.
Alternatives: armored cavalry or additional Strength
The mounted armor option moves from Light Cavalry into Cataphract, then considers Great Knight in Part 3. Cataphract recommends level 35, Renown 8, Riding D, Armor E+, and Spear or Axe B. Great Knight recommends level 45, Riding D, Armor D, and Spear or Axe A, plus its unlock. Light Cavalry’s reference level is 20; Cataphract’s is 35, so keep training between them.
If Strength is short, another option is Brigand → Warrior. Armor can improve Defense, while chariots on Cai’s route can improve growth. Pick one fix for the weakness and keep training the main weapon. Return to the original route once it is sufficient.

Chance-based damage-reduction masteries require completed training. Still calculate engagements without their activation.
Fly along flanks or support the ground front line with White Magic
On the flying route, flank and cross obstacles to reach fragile targets, landing outside bows and other effective attacks. The spear/White Magic route follows the ground front line, using spears when safe and Resquia or recovery when needed. Calculate survival from current stats on either route without counting initiative, counter prevention, or extra attacks.
Recruitment

Dietrich cannot recruit him. Cai and Theodora require Renown 6 and Support 3; Leda requires Renown 10 and Support 3. Complete his personal quest and report back first. Locations vary by route; see Seteth’s recruitment requirements.
Learned White Magic still needs a casting class
- Cataphract and Dreadnought recommend applying at level 35, with their respective qualifications.
- Sentinel requires level 45 and Spear A. Keep training after level 35.
- The 50% initiative applies only to the first enemy-phase engagement; do not include the 3% Bloodmark in kill thresholds.
- Learning Warp still requires a White Magic-capable class to cast it.
