Playing this class

Troubadour lets mages travel on horseback, use both black and white magic, and move 6 tiles. It trades spell uses for mobility: neither black nor white magic uses are doubled. Choose it for units who often fall behind but have enough spell uses.

Sirocco’s Troubadour positioning: class and current Thunder are visible at upper left, with the mounted model and blue movement range in the center. Avoid +40% at lower left comes from the current evasion terrain.

Who benefits

  • Tialla: horseback expands healing coverage. On Cai’s route, use Diviner → Shaman → Troubadour → Valkyrium with a mount already raised.
  • Fianna: Diviner → Priest → Troubadour → Valkyrium uses her Riding strength for healing and damage.
  • Olympia: if Sofia already handles main healing, mount her for added damage. Choose Bishop when healing is short to preserve more recovery uses.
  • Dante follows Diviner → Shaman → Troubadour → Valkyrium for both magic types and mobility, with Monoceros available on Cai’s route. Use Ovate until Troubadour is unlocked.
  • Sofia can also heal on horseback, with her personal spell range expanding coverage. Stay in Bishop if uses are short.

Training route

Unlock it on Cai’s route through the White-Haired Demon’s guidance request at Renown 10, or on Leda’s route through the tavern business “Elegant Drink Recipes.” The exam recommends level 35, requiring Renown 8, Riding D, and Black Magic B or White Magic B.

It only uses black and white magic, with Magic Heal +5 and Magic Hit +3. Growth bonuses are Magic, Resistance, and Luck +15 each, with no Speed. Units needing follow-ups must get Speed from personal growth and mounts.

Song of Courage mastery grants allies within 1–2 tiles Dexterity and Speed +2 until the next player phase. Tialla’s personal effect extends the song’s range, helping several allies in spare turns. It does not refresh actions.

When to move on

Continue into Valkyrium if you still need horseback and both magic types. With a good horse and healing often a few tiles short, the mounted route is worthwhile. Cai’s route more readily uses mounts’ stat and growth benefits.

If key spells run out first on long maps, return to Ovate or Bishop for doubled uses. Dedicated damage or healing classes are simpler for a single role, and Song of Courage does not justify delaying class changes indefinitely.
