Playing this class

Shaman deals damage with doubled Black Magic uses and Magic Hit +3, while retaining White Magic for healing. Magic growth +15 and Speed/Dexterity +10 each suit continued offensive spell training at Specialty tier.

Who benefits

  • Fabio: Diviner → Shaman → Ovate → Druid, focusing Black Magic.
  • Dante: Attack with wind and thunder, heal with White Magic, and support nearby allies. For mounted dual magic, enter Troubadour at Advanced tier, then Valkyrium.
  • Sirocco and Bonaventure: Diviner → Shaman → Ovate continues Magic, Speed, and Dexterity training.

Loretta can also use a Shaman → Ovate magic path. Early Black Magic has few uses and is hard to train; Shaman makes it smoother.

Training

Requirements are Renown 4 and Black Magic C, with recommended level 20. It uses swords, gauntlets, and both magic types; White Magic uses stay unchanged. Strength growth is −5 and Defense −10, so cast behind the frontline rather than taking close-range hits to level. Doubled Black Magic is innate to this class and disappears after switching to Troubadour.

When to leave

Prepare for Ovate at Black Magic B, then Druid. Druid loses White Magic; stay Ovate if healing is still needed. Mastery Bind Dexterity only lowers adjacent enemies’ Dexterity by 3. Its small benefit does not justify standing beside enemies or delaying reclassing.
