Passing down Hidden Arts according to your team’s needsMinor spoilers
Learn each art first, then teach it to fill a character’s gaps. Chapter 5 challenges and Chapter 7 teaching at Smyrnos Temple are separate steps. Upgrading and teaching are available in Part 3.

Teach Hidden Arts to fill gaps: an axe user who needs healing can learn Hidden Soulrend to recover HP by initiating attacks. The whole team does not need every art.
Have Dietrich learn the arts first, then teach teammates the functions they actually lack. Hidden Soulrend gives axe users healing when initiating, Hidden Flowform gives sword users Avoid and follow-ups for the current combat, and Hidden Windpierce improves accuracy for slow spear users.
Complete challenges to learn arts first, then gather materials to upgrade or teach them.

Open the challenge system before spending materials in Part 1
- 1From Chapter 5, check the base quest list for challenges that teach combat arts. You can accept only one at a time; finish it before the next appears, with some randomness in timing. If the next one has not appeared, finish your accepted quest first.
- 2Complete a challenge with an explicit art reward, then confirm Dietrich has learned it.Reaching Chapter 5 does not automatically grant every Hidden Art. See
Dietrich for recorded available arts. - 3After the black-cat event at the start of Chapter 7, visit Smyrnos’s temple for teaching.Check the recipient and currently usable weapons before reviewing the material preview. Do not spend your entire stock on upgrades before teaching opens.
Hidden Soulrend heals, Hidden Flowform doubles, and Hidden Windpierce improves Hit
- On an initiated attack, converts half the damage dealt into healing.
- The current class must use axes, the weapon must be equippable, and the art must occupy a combat art slot. Check durability and Hit in the forecast first.
- Level 20 Jester is one example. Raises Avoid and forces a follow-up for this combat.
- Halves each hit’s damage, costs 6 durability, and has range 1. It does not grant lasting Avoid for the next enemy phase.
- Slow spear users such as Dreadnought are priority candidates. Hit +20 when enemy Attack Speed exceeds yours by at least 4.
- Use a range 1–2 spear; the art has fixed range 2 and costs 5 durability. You can still suffer follow-ups, and it does not reduce damage.
Before teaching, check that each recipient can be selected and equip the weapon, then place the learned Hidden Art in a Combat Art slot.
Consolidate in Part 2 and teach missing arts in Part 3
Part 2: Equip arts learned in Part 1 according to the current class and use them for immediate targets. If an art is missing, rely on existing attacks and healing.
Part 3: The army can use Dietrich’s upgrading and teaching. Check the relevant menu before arranging the team, then fill current gaps. Handle upgrades for existing arts separately from accepting missing challenges again.
| Operation | Resource check | Required step |
|---|---|---|
| Learn | Complete the challenge; check each quest’s reward and requirements | Paying stones cannot create an unlearned art |
| Teach | Check Magic Echo Shard cost in the selected art’s preview | Confirm recipient availability and stock first |
| Upgrade the recipient’s art | Costs more Magic Echo Shards | Even when Dietrich teaches an upgraded art, the recipient must upgrade it again |
| Equip and use | Combat art slot, class weapon access, durability | Equip the art after learning it. Each magical gauntlet art also has weapon restrictions |
When is Hidden Flowform worthwhile?
Suppose you cannot normally follow up and the forecast shows one hit of 16 damage. Hidden Flowform changes this to two hits of 8, still totaling 16. The benefits are 20 Avoid for this combat and another attack opportunity; total damage stays the same. If a counterattack is expected, compare enemy Hit. Use the current forecast to check whether the two half-damage hits actually kill and whether a counter between them would be fatal, rather than relying on the paper total.
The art’s Avoid does not protect the next enemy phase. Check that forecast separately after ending the action. Hidden Soulrend likewise drains HP only when actively used, rather than on every counterattack; see Critical-hit lifesteal for the latter setup.
Leave room for September’s main-story travel when farming materials
If materials are short, teach the character who most needs an art first. Material battles must account for mummies and main-story time. Reserve September travel time so farming does not make you miss your destination.
