First trailer breakdown: Animals, battalions, movement through obstacles, and monster summonsMinor spoilers
Each protagonist has distinct combat tools. The biggest new feature is the combination of special abilities and the Blaze Gauge on the battlefield.

The four protagonists differ through animals, battalions, movement through obstacles, and monster summons. Blaze abilities connect HP management with action choices.
The four protagonists' combat identities
The first trailer's most interesting details are what each protagonist can do.
Cai enters the Heroic Games to save his father. He looks like a country boy, yet has an eye in his palm and fights alongside trained animals. That supposedly ordinary appearance clearly hides something.
Theodora uses battalions, bringing Gambits back to battle.
Dietrich is a long-haired swordsman whose flat delivery contrasts with his eagerness to fight, and he has a special movement option.
Leda charms enemies through dance and summons monsters. Remembering those four identities makes the later footage easier to follow.
Town facilities and battlefield weather
Cai moves freely through town, visiting equipment shops and the forge and using a map to change areas. Preparing for battle therefore means linking facilities and activities, beyond choosing equipment in a single menu.
The battle footage lists uses for
Theodora's Gambit, with Frontal Disruption restricting enemy actions. The weather panel shows rain, fog, and other icons. Fog visibility deserves particular attention: how many enemies you can see changes how you advance.
Move three tiles through obstacles and still attack
Dietrich's special movement crosses the field stone wall shown on screen, reaches three tiles, and still permits attacking afterward. Ordinary infantry are blocked by the wall, but he can move straight to the other side, making a major difference when approaching an obstructed target.
The ability menu also lists an HP cost, and the Blaze Gauge changes after use.

Monster summoning and Sothis's appearance
A monster appears after
Leda performs. Bringing such a large unit onto the field adds a different source of power from ordinary allies. Compared with
Dietrich's personal movement,
Leda's ability more directly changes the forces your team can field.
Sothis's appearance at the end makes the connection to Three Houses explicit.
Imagining how four lives might end
Each protagonist has a faction and representative color. What I most want to see is whether they must kill one another or can eventually unite. If imagining an ending, I would make Byleth, driven out of control by dark power, the final boss, then bring back the previous game's three house leaders as enemies he summons. Familiar characters, music, and the world's peace would come together in one final battle.
What appeals to me in that imagined ending is how the ensemble would finally answer one another. Four people set out separately; can their wishes come together at the end? I also want to see later trailers explain the Blaze system and why these factions meet.
