After finishing one character’s story, switch routes and carry over exploration and support. Unlock classes before entering the War story.

Finish all four character stories first, carrying over map exploration, Support, and class unlocks before advancing to the war story. Train repeat recruits differently across routes for merging in the Promised One's story.
Finish the character stories one by one before advancing
The game has character stories, the War story, and the Promised One's story. Completing one character's story returns you to the obelisk hall. You can continue into their War story or switch to another character and begin their story. I recommend working across the cast first, completing their Part 1 stories one by one before moving forward.
Map exploration and Support carry over. A map opened on the first route saves substantial exploration on the next. Later routes may also use carriages along unlocked roads to bypass gates that cannot be crossed on foot. Route-specific class unlocks become available later too; unlock all four protagonists' classes before the war story to avoid missing options.
Dancer does not share its qualification across routes like other advanced classes.
Recruit repeatedly for different builds, then merge
Recruit planned core units as early as possible. Characters requiring Renown level eight or higher have little training time left in Part 1. Recruiting someone on several branches lets you develop different strengths. Once Merge Causality unlocks in the Promised One's story, combine those branches' advantages.
Exploration and turn pressure across four routes
Cai opens a smaller area, and capturing mounts consumes many turns. Mounts provide extra growths, though, so you cannot neglect building a stock entirely.
Dietrich opens a large map, with less turn pressure from appointments and combat-art upgrades.
Theodora can also explore widely, but battalion recruitment takes more turns, and higher Renown encourages replacing troops with higher-ranked ones.
Leda's performances already require traveling, and despite being unable to sail, she faces relatively little turn pressure. Explore first, then leave time for mounts and battalions to ease later routes.
Unlocked classes still need to fit the route
Unlocking a class does not mean everyone should enter it. For example,
Cataphract has relatively low class growth modifiers.
Cai's route can supplement them through mounts, but other routes need closer comparison. Do not switch the whole army simply because a new advanced class appears.
