Rewind
Return to a chosen action in battle. Rewinds are unlimited and free on Normal, or 5 Divine Sand each on Hard. Save units, change positions, or undo an accidental Blessing before victory is finalized.

Use Fortuna's Blessing to return to the action before a mistake. You can try to save fallen units too. Check before the final blow: rewinding is unavailable after victory.
Fortuna's Blessing rewinds battles; some players call it fate reversal. Story progression unlocks it, without Temple Service.
Some defeats also offer a rewind option, still subject to unlocks, sand, and story or map conditions. Before finishing, check for units to save and kills you want another character to take.

Rewind unlock chapters on each route
| Protagonist route | Battle chapter where it unlocks |
|---|---|
Cai | Part 1, Chapter 1 |
Dietrich | Part 1, Chapter 2 |
Theodora | Part 1, Chapter 2 |
Leda | Part 1, Chapter 1 |
The sand Eshmel previously gave the protagonist glows during that battle, followed by the introduction of Fortuna's Blessing. This is mandatory story progression, without an extra temple visit, affinity, or contribution requirement. The menu appears in that battle.
Four rewind steps and what log entries mean
- 1Select an empty map tile during your turn to open the battle menu, or press +.
- 2Choose Activate Blessing.
- 3Choose Fortuna's Blessing.
- 4
Browse the action log and select the node you want to remain as the last action. Recent entries appear first; scroll back to earlier ones or even the start of battle. To undo an attack, choose a node before it. To refund an accidentally used blessing, return to before activation. Going farther back also undoes later actions, so repeat any good moves you want to keep when replanning.
Even after unlocking rewind, check forecasts before dangerous moves and keep enough resources. “Fix it after defeat” is not unconditional insurance. This Blessing is exempt from the normal once-per-turn Blessing restriction, but that does not make Hard rewinds free.
When to rewind for rescue or better actions
Save units first. A fallen Casual unit cannot act again in this battle; a fallen Classic unit is permanently lost. Rearrange events before the fall to prevent permanent loss in Classic. Rewind promptly during combat, then change positioning or action order.
Then correct positions and kill allocation. Waiting on the wrong tile, selecting the wrong attack or heal, or losing experience to someone else’s unexpected critical can all be undone. You can also adjust pursuit of escaping third-party enemies. If you fell one step short, try a different route or action order.
You can undo an accidental ordinary Blessing. Rewinding to before activation refunds its Sand, but Fortuna’s own 5-point cost is not refunded. On Hard, reserve at least one rewind rather than spending all your Sand offensively.

Repeating the same attack or level-up does not reroll it
Identical actions do not let you repeatedly gamble on Hit. Repeating exactly the same sequence after rewinding does not change the outcome; even ordinary movement before attacking may leave it unchanged. Moving beside an ally and receiving their bonus may change the result. Change actual combat conditions, not just cursor position.
Rewinding a level-up does not reroll growth either. The stats gained are already determined. Undoing the kill and leveling the same way will not change them.
Victory prevents saving someone from the previous turn. Once defeating the commander or routing the enemy completes the objective, rewind is unavailable. In Classic especially, check survivors before the final blow.
Distinguish battle rewinds from chapter restarts. Replaying an old chapter returns levels and items to the chapter's start. One Support-farming demonstration spends money on a meal, restarts to recover just over 4,000 gold, and keeps accumulated Support. That resets the chapter while retaining Support; battle rewinds instead undo actions after the chosen node. To fix one battle, rewind to the action before the mistake.
Rewind, restart, and special defeats differ
| Action | Return point | Main effect |
|---|---|---|
| Fortuna’s Blessing | Chosen point in the current battle | Rearrange combat actions; free on Normal, 5 Sand on Hard |
| Restart chapter | State at the chapter’s start | Rolls back training, items, Renown, new companions, quests, and other chapter progress; retains bonds |
| Descend Again | Replay the prologue, then return to the Obelisk | Change difficulty, mode, name, and appearance; retains four-route progress |
See New Game Plus for the full rollback list and instructions for the latter two. Do not restart an entire chapter to move one waiting unit, and do not expect battle rewind to fix a missed free-time quest.
SpoilersExceptions in Part 3’s opening and temple trials
Losing the opening battle after entering Part 3 early sends you back to the Obelisk Chamber through Fortuna. Defeat in a temple trial does not end the game; you can challenge it again at reception.
These are two specific defeat procedures. They do not mean deaths are harmless in every Classic battle.
