Cultivation guide: Skip fertilizer to duplicate crops, and find your first rare materialMinor spoilers
Crops mature after six turns and are harvested by walking through the field. Fertilizer favors location-specific rare crops, so leave it out when duplicating the original plant.

Fertilizer changes what you harvest
Once cultivation opens in
Cai’s To the Land of Cybele, you can plant vegetables you own in pentagonal fields on the world map. They mature after six turns. Walk through to harvest them without stopping on the tile to interact. The result is usually ten copies of the planted crop or one location-specific rare crop. After two to four harvests, you need to plant again.
Fertilizer increases the chance of location-specific rare crops, potentially replacing the crop you wanted to duplicate. To multiply existing materials such as
Dates, skip fertilizer. Add it when seeking local rare produce.
Get fertilizer near the stable or after failed animal captures.
Choose fields along routes you travel often, such as animal-catching trips or paths near frequently used carriage stops. Passing by carriage does not harvest crops. You must spend turns walking through yourself, so a remote field adds a round trip.
Benefits and costs of exchanged equipment
You do not need to clear every merchant’s stock. Prioritize equipment that changes how your team plays.
Giant's Ring is powerful but reduces Avoid by twenty.
Challenge Gem adds three Attack against enemies using the same weapon type, suiting physical units that can switch weapons to match. Bows and magic can also find opportunities to use it. Weigh accessories’ benefits alongside their Weight and drawbacks.
In Cai's Battle, look for
Magic Staff for mages and planned magic-sword users.
Cleansing Blade handles enemies with the Underworld Boon early, without waiting for the story-issued sword;
Ultand's
Seraphim is another tool. A further
Levin Sword in Unyielding Feelings lets mixed Strength/Magic units such as
Cai,
Loretta, and
Mu use both stats. Another
Healing Staff in Mystery at Aurora's Temple supports teams with two healers. Chapter 10 also offers
Mire B and
Death Γ scroll exchanges. The former has range 3, fitting Tialla's ability to lower enemy Avoid after initiating; the latter has high Might and Critical.
Getting started with Dates and Torment Grass
Recruiting
Halvin requires ten Dates.
Cai cannot reach the desert area where they can be searched for directly, so obtain them through exchange first, then cultivate enough. Waiting for a request that rewards Dates is another option, but exchange lets you start multiplying them earlier.
Goliath wants three
Giants' Meat. When exchanging
Torment Grass for them, the hardest part is obtaining the first grass. If Cai is your first route, certain requests and fields are not unlocked yet. You also cannot travel through the western map, so you cannot copy the other protagonists’ gathering methods directly. A second Part 1 route adds requests, creating other ways to access the relevant fields and grass rewards.
On a first-route Cai playthrough, explore for
Luxury Veg. Crate and open crates for the first Torment Grass. I restarted chapters three times before getting one, after which I could plant it. Once you have the first plant, mass production can begin:
| Goal | Torment Grass needed |
|---|---|
Exchange for three Giants’ Meat to recruit Goliath | 30 |
| Exchange for a | Save another 3 |
Grow crops for harvest requests and labyrinth supplies
Rare crops are useful for more than exchange. Large stocks of ingredients that restore HP and magic uses also supply labyrinth trips. After cultivation unlocks, a series of harvest requests asks for thirty plants in total across three specified categories. Each completion rewards two thousand five hundred gold and two hundred Renown.
List your intended recruits, exchanges, and remaining request requirements before choosing what to plant. For clear targets such as ten Dates, obtain the first copy and multiply it along a route you often travel, avoiding a detour when delivery time arrives.
