The standard route runs Guardian into Sentinel. For mobility and sustain, train armor into Great Knight. The flying path needs ranged healing support.

For low cost, follow spears and White Magic. For greater investment, train Heavy Armor into Great Knight. For flying support, assign ranged healing elsewhere. All three plans work around Light of Salvation's 2-tile range.

Build around Light of Salvation

Eshmel has both offense and defense, leaving flexible options. The simplest is Guardian into Sentinel, then The Trident, offering damage, tanking, and healing. For focused investment, I prefer Great Knight: high Movement and armor-exclusive abilities let him provide help wherever needed. Another option is Celestial Trooper, using flight and Avoid for mobile support, but it needs healing coverage.

Part 3 enemies have many Underworld Boons. Light of Salvation disables the boons of enemies within two tiles, more useful than merely increasing stats. A fully upgraded Scorching Sun has a 10% chance to reduce netherfiend damage to 0, but do not base positioning on that chance.

1. Lances and white magic

He formally joins as Guardian with high Spear and Authority, making Sentinel into The Trident smooth. White Magic starts low. Spend one or two turns learning spells, then combine frontline tanking with ally healing.

The Nameless upgrades through requests. Vendetta offers high Might and 1–2 Range as a cursed weapon. Eshmel’s Blaze type avoids the usual curse cost and lets him use it to control the Blaze gauge during Burst. Carry Halberd for armor, or save that slot if you already have Frozen Spear. Silver Spear is strong overall; give it to others if supplies are limited.

Victory Gem heals on kills, while Healing Staff improves recovery spells such as Fortify. Equip practical Spear bonuses, Defense, and half-HP Avoid first. Blaze costs HP, making the half-HP condition accessible. Low mobility is the main drawback. Prioritize him for Shoes of the Wind from Renown rewards so he is not still catching up when allies begin fighting.

2. Great Knight

Eshmel most needs the ability to reach the fight. Armored Move+ adds two Movement, while Healing Armor has a Magic-based chance to restore half the damage dealt as HP. Both require an armored class, making mounted Great Knight the best fit.

Train armor and Riding immediately. First take Intercept from Castle Knight, then become Great Knight. For more Resistance, train fists and obtain Resistance +10 through The Godhand. Skip this if investing less. Mostly retain lance-route equipment, replacing Healing Staff with Silver Shield for physical durability.

Use a Monoceros and equip Paired Healing+. Post-combat healing, Healing Armor, and kill healing work together to replace HP spent on Blaze. Great Knight already has high Movement. Armor movement and Shoes of the Wind make late maps requiring frequent repositioning much more comfortable.

3. Celestial Trooper

Another setup starts with Rogue for In Shadow, improving Avoid in the next combat after a kill. Then focus Sword and Flying, reaching at least Sword S. Borrow Strength and Speed bonuses from The Blade and The Eternal, then free those divine slots and change to Celestial Trooper.

Flight ignores terrain, making Blaze attacks easy to deliver around the map. High Avoid and sufficient bulk mean an occasional hit is not immediately fatal. Self-healing is weaker than Great Knight, though, so bring Physic support.

Levin Sword+3 broadens target coverage. Choose Guandao or Whirlwind Blade for Avoid. Kalla's Needle improves follow-up value, while Charm Mask uses high Charm to lower enemy Hit. Equip Spearfaire, In Shadow, Lightning Reflexes, and Strength and Speed bonuses. Swap Spear for Sword bonuses when mainly using swords.

Mounts offer two directions: Canto repositions after combat to adjust Light of Salvation coverage, letting later allies reach enemies stripped of their Boon; Black Pegasus further improves personal Avoid. I value the former's support more. After clearing one enemy, move the aura where the next ally needs it.
