Centurio’s first-combat mitigation and armored progression

Centurio suits Castle Knight as an armored endpoint, taking the first enemy-phase battle before considering The Trident according to the team’s needs. His strengths are high Defense and Dexterity growth, plus Sturdy Corundum, which halves attack damage in his first combat of enemy phase. He joins in Section 2 of the Promised One’s story, so training should fill an existing frontline gap, continuing from his starting Armored Knight.

Castle Knight stabilizes tanking and counters

The recommended Master class is Castle Knight. HP growth +25, Defense growth +30, and Protection +7 when striking second directly reinforce armored frontline needs. It permits spears and axes, with Heavy Armor C as a main requirement and either Axe A or Spear A. His strengths in Spear, Axe, and Heavy Armor make certification preparation straightforward.

Castle Knight has a recommended level of 45. He already joins at level 45 and still has two class changes ahead. The staged plan uses Dreadnought at level 50 and Castle Knight at 55. Prepare the relevant weapon and Heavy Armor ranks, then obtain masteries along the way. Castle Knight gives three additional combat art slots. Mastering Intercept further reduces incoming damage, suiting a frontline role on enemy phase.

Sturdy Corundum applies to the first combat of enemy phase, not every incoming attack. Damage is no longer halved after that first fight, so check survival against subsequent enemies. Castle Knight's Defense bonus when striking second, mastery Intercept, and personal damage reduction are separate abilities. The first comes from the current class, Intercept requires mastery, and the personal ability belongs to the character.

The Trident requires separate training to Spear S

The recommended Divine class is The Trident, requiring Spear S. If you used Axe A for Castle Knight, you must still train Spear afterward. This endpoint retains three extra Combat Art slots and grants Magic Heal +10 and White-Magic Zenith, the latter tripling White Magic uses. Mastery of Divine Wall grants Defense +10, further strengthening his best defense.

Castle Knight focuses on armored physical tanking, while The Trident switches to spears and White Magic. Change weapons and abilities when reclassing; armor-only or axe-only slots cannot simply be carried over unchanged. White Magic also requires learned spells and class permission after switching. The Divine class must be unlocked, The Trident item obtained, and Spear S reached before the exam. Level 45 does not grant eligibility automatically.

Counter accuracy matters alongside Defense

Prioritize HP, Defense, Strength, and Dexterity for ideal training. HP and Defense provide durability, Strength makes counters deal meaningful damage, and Dexterity helps them connect. Stacking Defense while counters repeatedly miss leaves enemies in front of him, failing to complete the armored role. Defense at 50% and Dexterity at 50% are his standout personal growths.

Magic, Speed, Luck, and Charm below the same route’s expected values do not undermine his main wall role. Magic and Charm are not priorities. He does not center on follow-ups or criticals, so lower Speed and Luck still let him do his job. Resistance merely needs normal expected growth. He is not a dedicated mage tank: 30% Resistance is average, so plan engagements around each enemy spell’s power.

His full personal growths are HP 45%, Strength 45%, Magic 25%, Speed 40%, Dexterity 50%, Defense 50%, Resistance 30%, Luck 30%, and Charm 30%, totaling 345. He has no proficiency weaknesses, easing spear, axe, and armor training. These are personal growths; class modifiers are separate.

Late recruitment limits his overall rating

A spear-focused armored role, 50% Defense growth and 50% Dexterity growth, and guaranteed first-combat enemy-phase damage halving let him fill a frontline vacancy immediately. Unlike low-probability survival effects, his personal mitigation activates whenever the first-combat condition is met, making engagement order important.

He joins only in Part 3, segment 2, missing Part 1 and Part 2 training and deployment time. If the party already has a developed frontline, fewer roles remain for him. His Resistance is only average, so physical durability does not cover every enemy. The overall rating is B. Train him when the party needs a physical frontliner.

Return to the capital after the rescue request

In Section 2 of the Promised One’s story, complete Centurio’s rescue request, then speak to him in the imperial capital, Dagsion, to recruit him. Finishing the battle without returning to talk does not complete recruitment. This method requires no Part 1 Support or Renown threshold and no negotiation fee.

Coffee and crafting knives make good gifts

He likes working and patrolling at Aurora Temple. His highest preference tier includes Mature Ghosh, Common Coffee, and Select Coffee. He likes Village Recipes and Crafting Knives, and somewhat likes Garum and Simple Pastries.

His Support partners are Cai and Ultand. His Japanese voice actor is Koji Takeda, whose notable roles include Kenichi Okamura in Kuroko’s Basketball, Gozo Shima in Blue Exorcist, and Bruno Braise in TIGER & BUNNY 2.

Use existing armor to fill the Part 3 front line

If Part 3 needs a tank, use his existing armored class and move to Castle Knight when qualified. Sturdy Corundum halves damage only in the first enemy-phase combat.

Deploy using his recruitment qualifications, spending remaining training on immediate gaps.

Training route by stage

Part 1: no ordinary recruitment

He cannot be recruited normally in Part 1. Plan Soldier, Armored Knight, and Castle Knight routes only after he joins.

Part 2: training is still unavailable

He still cannot train in Part 2. Check masteries, mounts, and movement abilities after taking control in Part 3; story appearances do not let you train him.

Part 3: deploy his existing armor first

Fill immediate qualification gaps after late recruitment
  1. 1
Check level, current class, Spear/Axe, and Heavy Armor on recruitment.
Another player's high-Defense screen does not guarantee the same recruitment stats.
  2. 2
Use existing armor to hold physical objectives.
At level 45 with Heavy Armor C, Spear or Axe A, and Segment 1 cleared, take the Castle Knight exam. If short, keep using current armor and train the missing requirement first. The goal is early deployment, not retaking low-class exams for a complete route.
  3. 3
Master Castle Knight for Intercept only if time permits.
It improves later tanking, but class qualification and mastery are separate. After changing, fill class experience to learn it. With few maps remaining, assess whether mastery training takes resources from established carries.

Start with existing spears, axes, and equipment. Adjust for current enemy Hit, incoming damage, and counters. Castle Knight is infantry and takes no mount.

Centurio's armored status shows Movement 4, Defense 59, and Resistance 17 together. Personal, class, and equipped abilities are separate on the right. Check later incoming damage beyond the first-combat reduction.

For a war elephant, choose Elephant Rider. It requires level 35 and Riding C and unlocks after Segment 1. Check Riding on recruitment and prepare a mount before the exam.

For mobility, consider Great Knight. Its exam needs level 45, Riding D, Heavy Armor D, Spear or Axe A, and the Credna-temple-related quest in Segment 3. To carry Intercept, master Castle Knight first. Prepare another mount too.

Sturdy Corundum halves only the first combat's damage

Use him for one important physical fight, then evaluate subsequent enemies with his ordinary Defense. Sturdy Corundum halves damage only in the first combat of enemy phase. This is valuable against a boss's heavy attack, but the second and third enemies in the same phase do not receive that reduction. An easy first fight does not mean he can handle the entire group.

He immediately fills a missing physical-wall role. If you already have a developed frontliner who keeps pace, reserve training for the core team.

Recruitment

Complete “Rescue Centurio” in Part 3's second segment, then return to town and speak to him to recruit him. Early story battles against him do not mean he is recruitable in Part 1. See the Centurio recruitment page for the process.

Fix the immediate gaps first

  • Sturdy Corundum protects only the first combat. Recalculate damage against each later enemy.
  • Check actual recruitment stats.
  • Fix immediate gaps first. He joins late; collecting every low-tier mastery delays deployment.
  • Master Castle Knight before equipping Intercept.
