Recommended characters for this class

Playing this class

Ranger combines combat and exploration. It uses swords and bows, opens locks, and improves the chance of Perfect exploration while in the class. Keep one unit for gathering and chests; you do not need to turn every attacker into a Ranger.

Lilian's Ranger status screen lists Combat Arts +2, Locktouch, and Advanced Search as class skills at the upper right. The mastery skill Countershot appears separately among equipped abilities at the lower right.

Suitable characters

  • Diego: switch to Warrior after joining for Strength, then Ranger, followed by Shadow Seeker in Part 3 for exploration.
  • Guzran: use Ranger for Speed and Dexterity when the party lacks a bow user, with Breakaway Shot and Spiral Shot covering ranged duties. A sword route is more direct otherwise.
  • Kiroc: detour through Brigand for Strength, then return to Ranger. Rising Speed and Dexterity do not help enough if attacks still deal little damage.

Training priorities

Renown 8, with either Sword B or Bow B, at the recommended level 35. Unlock it first through Dietrich's Renown 10 Dread Warrior Challenge - Oko, or Leda's tavern performance quest Elegant Drink Recipes.

Growth bonuses are Speed +15, Dexterity +15, and only Strength +5. Use swords for melee and bows against fliers. Locktouch and Advanced Search are available immediately on reclassing; gathering does not require mastery.

Countershot mastery gives a 50% chance to counter adjacent enemies while wielding a bow. Use a Mini Bow when you need reliable close-range counters instead of gambling on activation.

When to move on

For exploration, follow with Shadow Seeker and train the main Sword or Bow skill to A. If licenses are scarce, stay in Ranger; another exam just for gathering offers little value. A pure bow user can master Countershot before returning to a bow class. It is only an extra chance, so maintain safe positioning.
