Playing this class

Commoner is the starting class, with no class growth modifiers or specialized skill experience bonuses. Switch as soon as you obtain a Beginner qualification so later levels benefit from more suitable growths.

Commoner’s class-change screen: Combat Basics appears in the mastery slot at the lower right, while all three class-skill slots are empty. Movement on the right is 4.

Who suits this class

Starting characters who have not yet qualified for another class. Cai can start with Ornius Rider, using mounted mobility and Speed to get going. For more Speed and Dexterity, Dietrich can start with Hunter, then enter a sword or bow path.

Esmeralda has two starting options: Soldier uses her initial spear and high Defense for tanking, while Ornius Rider → Myrmidon → Shido improves Speed and offense.

Training plan

The starting class needs no exam and uses swords, spears, axes, bows, gauntlets, and both types of magic, with Movement 4. Train the next class’s exam skills first, including for reserves. Raising character levels without weapon training can still leave you unqualified at level 36.

All class growth modifiers are zero, but personal growths still apply normally. Do not split training across every weapon available at the start. Focus on your first qualification.

When to move on

Switch as soon as you have a Beginner qualification. Combat Basics mastery gives Hit and Avoid +3 each. It helps early, so equip it if you get it along the way, but do not stay to grind it or send later recruits back for it. For physical Strength, choose Gladiator; for Speed and Dexterity, choose Hunter.
