Flying axe route into The Eternal

Continue training axes as Brigand and Warrior, then move into Bau Lord and The Eternal. He cannot join Cai’s route, so this route does not use its exclusive Dragoon as the advanced class.

Armored mobile Castle Knight

Heavy Armor B’s enhanced movement offsets low mobility; when attacked, Def and Intercept support taking hits and counterattacking.

Mobile armored Great Knight

XianyunSS’s “Leda’s Story Character Recommendations” 06:08–10:07, an armored route into Great Knight: first follow the armored route to train Str、Def, then mount up for mobility. Intermediate class stages follow this site’s class table; the author did not provide a level-by-level timetable.

Theodora Dragoon branch

The reasoning assumes Dragoon is exclusive to Cai’s route. This branch is only for Theodora saves that already meet the unlock condition, keeping an axe-based route with a flying endpoint. Leda and saves without the unlock should still use the first Warrior route.

Buccar’s wyvern training and physical counters

Buccar has two very different training options. For broader late-game participation, follow Ornius Rider → Brigand → Warrior → Bau Lord, then The Eternal. To tank physical attacks earlier, retain armored growths instead. Both rely on HP, Strength, and Defense. Low Speed and Resistance still require careful target selection and positioning.

Train Axe and Flying early for the wyvern route

The axe/flying build starts with axe-capable Ornius Rider, switches to Brigand at level 20 and Warrior at 35, then prepares Bau Lord from level 45 and The Eternal at the Divine tier. He joins as Commoner, so reach level 5 before switching to Ornius Rider. Recommended Renown thresholds for beginner, specialty, and advanced classes are 1, 4, and 8.

The Advanced stage does not go directly to Dragoon because Dragoon unlocks only on Cai’s route, where Buccar cannot join. Warrior is a usable transition for single-route training: it continues Axe and grants Practiced Art to improve Combat Art accuracy. Try to prepare Flying C while still an Ornius Rider. After moving to ground classes, cover any shortfall through the training grounds or Flying Manual. Do not reach level 45 only to discover that Flying is untrained.

Ornius Rider mastery Offense Basics, Brigand mastery Regroup, and Warrior mastery Practiced Art support later growth and combat. Bau Lord mastery grants Ambush, and The Eternal grants Divine Might. Level 45 does not automatically grant Divine eligibility; Part 3 unlocks and the relevant proficiencies are still required.

Take physical attacks before striking back

Near the end of Part 1, around level 40, check Strength, HP, Defense, and Dexterity. Personal growths of HP 50%, Strength 50%, and Defense 45% support taking hits and countering, while Dexterity 40% supports axe accuracy. Guardian’s Duty reduces incoming damage to 90% of its normal value when attacked. It mitigates damage but does not prevent the attack.

Speed at 25% does not favor clearing enemies through follow-ups. Meeting this route’s expected value is enough. Magic and Charm are not central to his role. Luck mainly affects criticals and Dodge. If these stats fall short, they need not take resources away from Strength and Defense. Handle 20% Resistance by avoiding magical attack ranges. Being impervious to physical enemies does not mean he should also take several mages at once.

If Strength grows poorly in Part 1, use Merge Causality with Buccar from another route to take the higher value for each stat. Once developed, Bau Lord mobility helps him participate in offense. Low Speed and weak damage before Part 2 are still costs. He is rated B: useful physical durability, but low Resistance and vulnerability to follow-ups remain. His growths total 315% and are unevenly distributed.

He excels in Spear, Axe, Riding, and Heavy Armor, while both magic types are weaknesses. Main training should follow weapon and target-class requirements. Reclassing to a mage to fix Resistance would add an entirely different training burden.

Leda can train him from the start

On Leda’s route, he joins in the first battle after Chapter 1 begins, without recruitment. This route gives more complete early training time for flying or armored growth.

Other routes require Leda's paralogue first. It is available in Chapter 9 on Dietrich's route and Chapter 10 on Theodora's, both from September 2 to September 8. Once he appears and bond and Renown requirements are met, you still need the paralogue. Missing the date means missing recruitment. This recruitment paralogue does not occur on Cai or Leda's routes.

Keep counterattack and armored abilities separate

At level 35, Retaliatory Blow+ has a 10% chance to multiply damage by 1.3 when attacking second. It adds occasional burst to counters after taking a hit, but cannot count as guaranteed for a planned kill.

Bau Lord can use Axe and its corresponding weapons, but does not simultaneously meet infantry and armored conditions. Choose an armored route to use Armored Move. The flying route gains mobility from its class and mount.

Improve movement for armored defense

Train Soldier and Armored Knight, then Castle Knight for physical defense. Heavy Armor B improves movement. Have allies remove mages first.

Reducing damage to 90% means only 10% damage reduction. His Speed and Resistance are low, so avoid mages.

Buccar’s early stats and recruitment conditions show Defense 9/Resistance 3 on the left, with Bond Level 3, Renown 8, and this route’s prerequisite event on the right. Check physical and magical durability separately.

Class progression by stage

Part 1: focus on physical defense

Exam order for the armored route
  1. 1
Start as Commoner, aiming for Soldier around level 5 and Renown 1.
Choose Spear or Axe D and settle on a main weapon. Soldier’s Defense Basics mastery adds Defense. Focus on taking hits and single counters before pursuing follow-ups.
  2. 2
Aim for Armored Knight around level 20 and Renown 4.
It requires Heavy Armor E+ and Spear or Axe C. Great Counter mastery improves attacks when striking second. Continue Heavy Armor: D grants Armored Move and B grants Armored Move+, whose upgraded effect gives armored units Movement +2.
  3. 3
Move into Dreadnought around level 35 and Renown 8 if ready.
It requires Heavy Armor D and Spear or Axe B. Focused Counter mastery adds Hit when striking second. Stay in the current class if levels, Renown, or proficiencies are short.

Since Speed is not the goal, use a shield for durability. Carry strong spears or axes, Hand Axe or Pilum for range, and effective weapons such as Hammer against matching enemies. Choose a main weapon he can use that hits reliably and deals enough damage; you do not need every type.

Part 2: improve movement and Hit

Continue physical defense while training Heavy Armor B and the spears or axes he uses most. There is no rush to reach Castle Knight in Part 2. Spear C grants Armored Blow, B grants Protective Storm, and Axe C grants Discerning Blow. Choose learned arts using the attack forecast. Chasing A in both spears and axes spreads training thin.

If frequently used arts have low Hit, detour to Warrior for Practiced Art mastery and combat-art Hit +10. Warrior recommends level 35, Renown 8, and Sword, Axe, or Gauntlet B. Return to armor after mastery. This temporarily removes him from armored level-ups and holding the line; skip the detour if Hit is sufficient.

Part 3: choose defense or mobility

Hold the line or keep pace in Part 3
Castle Knight holds the line

The main route changes to Castle Knight: around level 45, Heavy Armor C, and Spear or Axe A, unlocked after clearing Section 1. Intercept mastery adds damage reduction, and upgraded armored movement helps him arrive. Learn and equip the skills first; changing class does not grant everything. An actual frontline build uses full armor and Intercept, but also avoids mages.

Great Knight keeps up faster

Alternatively, change to Great Knight: around level 45, Heavy Armor D, Riding D, and Spear or Axe A, after the side quest following Credna temple repairs. It retains the armored tag and armored movement. Mounting improves arrival time but does not fix low Resistance. Use Castle Knight while waiting for the unlock.

Specific mount, battalion, and blessing combinations remain unconfirmed. On foot, use an available defensive battalion; mounted classes cannot equip battalions. See battalion restrictions. Which stages to train in wyvern, Charioteer, or War Elephant classes remains unconfirmed. Changing to wyvern loses the armored tag and disables armored movement.

Block physical chokepoints after removing magic threats

Place him in front at a chokepoint physical enemies must cross, with allies attacking behind him. Before ending the turn, check each mage, magic weapon, and follow-up. Remove magic threats before making him take hits. A high-defense shield helps against physical attacks, not every damage type.

Frontline positioning in Leda’s Chapter 1: Buccar stands next to a sword enemy, while an allied archer is offset one tile behind him. Protection 8 and Resistance 3 remain visible at upper left.
Frontline positioning in Leda’s Chapter 1: Buccar stands next to a sword enemy, while an allied archer is offset one tile behind him. Protection 8 and Resistance 3 remain visible at upper left.

Retaliatory Blow has a chance to increase damage when striking second. Its upgraded multiplier is described as either 1.3 or 1.5 times, with 1.3 tied to a 10% chance. Until confirmed in-game, position him to hold even without activation.

Recruitment details

He joins automatically in Chapter 1 of Leda's route. Dietrich and Theodora need support 3, Renown 8, and Leda's paralogue completed first. Cai cannot recruit him. Other routes have shorter training windows. See Buccar's recruitment requirements.

Damage reduction and counter damage both have conditions

The skill panel on the left shows Guardian’s Duty: incoming damage is reduced to 90%, meaning 10% damage reduction. Defense 9 and Resistance 3 at lower left show why physical durability cannot be applied to spells.

  • Damage reduced to 90% means 10% damage reduction.
  • Armored movement must be equipped. Changing to wyvern loses the armored bonus.
  • Retaliatory Blow may not activate. Calculate normal counter damage first.
  • Before deploying two armored units, leave someone who can handle mages.
