Zarcone: sword training and axe alternatives

Zarcone can train Sword from his joining class Gladiator, progress through Myrmidon and Shido into Swordmaster, then prepare The Eternal. Dexterity 60% supports Hit and Crit, but Strength 30% and Speed 35% limit kills. To improve Strength first and use his personal axe accuracy, take the axe route to Battlemaster instead. Cai's route also offers Dragoon with a Wild Bau.

The sword route keeps Cleansing Blade for the Promised One’s story

The Beginner choice is Gladiator, with reference level 5, Renown 1, and any one of Sword, Axe, or Gauntlet D. He joins as a level 7 Gladiator, so continue from that class. Mastering Attack Basics improves Strength, helping his low Strength growth. His Sword and Axe strengths let him train Sword as Gladiator without first changing to a magic class he struggles with.

Intermediate Myrmidon has reference requirements of level 20, Renown 4, and Sword C. It offers Combat Arts +1 and Sword Crit +3. Mastery skill DexRavaging Arts adds 6 damage to critical hits. Advanced Shido follows at level 35, Renown 8, and Sword B, with Combat Arts +2, Sword Crit +5, and mastery skill Ever Vigilant. These stages follow one strong proficiency without spreading training into Black and White Magic.

The recommended Master class is Swordmaster, reference level 45 and Sword A. It grants Combat Arts +3 and Sword Crit +7. Its mastery art Astra strikes five times at 50% damage per hit. Swordmaster unlocks in Segment 3 of the Promised One's story; use Shido until then rather than assuming level alone permits the exam. Sword classes also use Cleansing Blade to bypass the Underworld Boon, giving him an offensive answer against relevant enemies in the Promised One's story.

The recommended divine class is The Eternal, requiring S in Sword, Axe, or Gauntlet. It grants Combat Arts +3, Axe Hit +10, and Gauntlet Hit +10; mastering Divine Might adds 10 Strength. Divine classes also require their qualification item and story unlock, rather than a fixed character level. Finish Sword training first, then pursue the endpoint when eligible. Do not count its final Strength +10 mastery bonus in Part 1.

Axes build Strength while Dragoon uses a mount

To prioritize personal skill Hatchet Man, go from Gladiator through Brigand and Warrior into Battlemaster. Battlemaster increases HP and Strength growth, improving melee damage and the amount of punishment he can take. Its Axe Hit +7 combines with his personal Hit +10 when wielding an axe to help strong axe arts connect. This alternative addresses Strength and axe advantages, unlike the sword route's use of Cleansing Blade.

On Cai's route, switch the advanced stage to Dragoon with a Wild Bau. At bond level 5, it grants Strength and Dexterity +2 each and growth +10% each, improving the Strength axe attacks need. Capture starts in Chapter 5 of Cai's route, with a total growth modifier of 25% at full bond. Before finding a rare individual, a wild mount of the same species has the same total growth bonus and can be used first.

Dragoon is an Advanced option. Stay mounted there or choose a later class as needed. Axe-focused Battlemaster is another route. Adjust the battalion after assigning a mount; the full infantry setup cannot be copied unchanged.

High Hit cannot replace Strength and Speed

Near the end of Part 1, around level 40, focus on Strength, Speed, Dexterity, and HP. With Strength and Speed growths of only 30% and 35%, respectively, above-average results in those two are especially desirable. High Dexterity supplies Hit and Crit, while HP gives room to take one attack. Swordmaster's Sword Crit +7 further enhances Dexterity's value, but check the enemy's remaining HP and your follow-up ability separately.

Below-average Magic, Resistance, Luck, and Charm usually do not change his physical role. Magic and Charm are not main damage tools on this route. Resistance is only 25%, so avoid enemy mages and plan attack order. Luck affects Crit and Dodge, but is no substitute for checking Strength and Speed. If Strength grows poorly, train another Zarcone on another route and use Merge Causality to retain higher individual stats.

StatPersonal growth
HP / Strength / Magic40% / 30% / 20%
Speed / Dexterity / Defense35% / 60% / 30%
Resistance / Luck / Charm25% / 30% / 15%

Total growth is 285%, with strengths in Sword and Axe and weaknesses in Black and White Magic. High Dexterity is a clear advantage; low Strength, Speed, and total growth are the cost. Easy negotiations and low recruitment costs make him useful for filling the roster, but some targets survive his attacks from late Part 1 through early Promised One's story. His overall rating is A: swords provide value later, while early and midgame damage remains limited.

Leave half-HP targets for him to finish

His personal ability Hatchet Man adds 10 Hit only with an axe equipped; do not count it for sword attacks. At level 35, Vulgar Conduct+ adds 20 Hit and 3 Attack when the target has half HP or less. Let allies weaken enemies before he finishes them. Full-HP targets do not grant this bonus, and high Dexterity still needs sufficient damage for kills.

Threaten lowers adjacent enemies' Critical by 5. Close Quarters lowers adjacent enemies' Movement by 1 while he is infantry. Both need adjacency, and the infantry restriction makes the latter inactive as Dragoon.

Combat artDurability and accuracySuitable targets
Sunder2 durability, Might +4, Crit +10Seek a sword critical
Destreza3 durability, Might +3Adds Attack +5 and Crit +10 when the enemy is at half HP or below
Smash2 durability, Might +4, Crit +5Melee axe attacks
Hurl3 durability, Might +3, Hit +20Requires a range 1–2 axe and attacks from 2 tiles
Spear Buster3 durability, Might +3Adds Attack +7 against spear users
Cautious Blow2 durability, Might +3Avoid +10 during combat

Destreza and Vulgar Conduct+ both favor half-HP targets, but target state and current-weapon requirements still apply. Hurl has high Hit but still requires a range 1–2 axe. Check the forecast before spending durability on a more expensive art.

Accept the deal at ten gold

He is recruitable on all four routes: Cai Chapter 5, bond 3, Renown 8; Dietrich Chapter 4, bond 3, Renown 7; Theodora Chapter 5, bond 1, Renown 4; and Leda Chapter 4, bond 2, Renown 5. Negotiate after meeting bond and Renown requirements.

He first asks for 10000 gold. Keep refusing to lower it to 10 gold. Pay at 10; refusing again breaks off negotiations. The minimum price does not reduce his stats and has no separately listed negative cost, so there is no need to pay the initial high price.

Prioritize Secret Ghosh as a gift

He likes money, violence, beautiful women, vegetables, and drinking with compatible companions. His favorite gift is Secret Ghosh. Liked alternatives are Herbal Recipe Guide, Eastern Earrings, Gaudy Bangle, Pickled Bulbs, Potted Vegetables, Strategy Manuscript, History of a Master, and Wing Fletching. Neutral gifts are Garum, Common Coffee, Mellow Pastries, and Jamel Milk.

His support conversation partners are the Promised One, Gaitz, Simon, and Halvin. His Japanese voice actor is Akihiro Mine. Gifts build bonds, while actual negotiation is a separate step. Bargaining down the gold still happens during negotiation.

Build Strength in Brigand and Warrior, then finish with axes

Use Brigand and Warrior to improve Strength, then finish enemies at half HP or below with axes. Hit is reliable; do not neglect damage while stacking more accuracy.

His Dexterity is high and Hit reliable, but Strength and Speed growth are low. Vulgar Conduct+ at level 35 adds damage against half-HP targets. Check whether current Strength can secure the kill before deciding on further investment.

Training route by stage

Levels below are recommended exam points. Continue the current class after late recruitment instead of restarting a level 7 template.

Build Strength in Brigand in Part 1

Start Brigand → Warrior for Strength. Raise an already trained Sword or Axe to C and enter Brigand when available. High Dexterity is no reason to keep directing all training into Hit.

PreparationRecommended exam pointReason
Continue Gladiator if already eligibleGladiator table: level 5, Renown 1, Sword, Axe, or Gauntlet DDo not return to the starting level to complete every class
BrigandLevel 20, Renown 4, Sword or Axe CBuilds Strength at specialty tier; use axes in story battles for personal +10 Hit
Prepare the advanced main weaponSword, Axe, or Gauntlet B prepares WarriorQualify through one subject instead of splitting training evenly because all three are options
At the exam entry screen, Zarcone is a level 19 Gladiator holding a Hand Axe. Check Sword and Axe ranks at the top right. Meet the requirements before changing to Brigand; there is no need to return to a level 7 template.

Use an axe he can currently equip and check whether the forecast can finish the target. Reliable Hit can still leave damage short against a full-HP enemy.

Keep building Strength in Warrior in Part 2

Warrior recommends level 35, Renown 8, and Sword, Axe, or Gauntlet B. Continuing Axe is simplest. Practiced Art mastery adds Hit when using combat arts, but he already has several Hit sources. Confirm sufficient damage before deciding more accuracy is worth training. Change class when qualifications allow; specialty and advanced classes need not be fixed to Parts 1 and 2.

Let teammates reduce enemies to half HP, then finish reliably with an axe. Check the target's HP and have Zarcone act after teammates.

Check axe use and enemy HP separately
Hit +20Level 20 Vulgar Conduct: active when the enemy's remaining HP is half or below
Attack +3Level 35 Vulgar Conduct+: adds Attack alongside Hit when the enemy's remaining HP is half or below
Hit +10Hatchet Man: an extra benefit when holding an axe, with a separate weapon requirement

The half-HP damage bonus helps secure kills, but Strength still needs training.

Switching to swords for Speed loses axe Hit, while the half-HP target bonus still checks enemy HP. Compare damage and follow-ups when choosing swords or axes.

Continue to Battlemaster in Part 3

The Strength-building axe route can follow the table into Battlemaster, recommended at level 45 with Sword, Axe, or Gauntlet A after the Salvation arc's first segment. Continue axe finishes on teammates' half-HP targets. Add War Master's Strike only after actual mastery.

If damage remains insufficient, check which targets further training would let him handle. Recruitment is cheap, but catching up still costs resources. Strength growth of 30% and Speed growth of 35% are low; keep checking actual stats after changing to higher classes.

The main route stays on foot and needs no mount.

Build Strength and Speed on separate routes

With resources for multiple routes, build Strength in Warrior on one and Speed in Ranger on another, then consider merging. Add Defense or Resistance only with spare resources. Ranger needs separate Sword or Bow B training and its class unlock.

Use axes to finish enemies below half HP

Act after main attackers, prioritizing targets already below half HP that his current axe can finish. Do not make him open against full-HP armor or face multiple enemies merely because Dexterity is high. Hit and extra damage help with half-HP finishes; once Hit is sufficient, low Strength becomes the bigger constraint. Decide further training by current targets and remaining resources.

Recruitment

All four routes can recruit him. Meet route-specific Renown and bond requirements and give a gift to open recruitment. Refuse the first three expensive offers during negotiation; the final price can be 10 gold. Meet recruitment prerequisites before paying. See Zarcone's recruitment requirements.

Vulgar Conduct waits for half HP; damage needs Strength

  • Once Hit is sufficient, improve Strength so each axe hit finishes wounded enemies.
  • Vulgar Conduct+ waits for enemies at half HP or below; do not keep axe Hit after switching to swords.
  • Ranger for Speed and Warrior for Strength are separate-route training plans, not one long mandatory chain.
  • Stats after ten levels still depend on random growth. Do not calculate the gap from total growth rates alone.
