An eight-unit team for Theodora: Lances for the queen, plus armor, healing, flying, and bowsMinor spoilers
Fill each role with eight units, then choose classes to address weaknesses: Guardian for Theodora, Tobias to tank, Strength training for Lilian and Lysander, and Dadao for ranged bows.

Cover each role with an eight-unit team
I build this route around eight characters. Training one or two more is certainly viable, but everyone takes time. Developing exactly the same characters across different routes also repeats much of the same work. Fill the roles first:
| No. | Character | Team role |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Theodora | Lances and Guardian, combining tanking with white magic |
| 2 | Tobias | Armored tank |
| 3 | Bonaventure | Black magic damage |
| 4 | Lilian | Sword damage after improving Strength |
| 5 | Lysander | Flying after improving Strength |
| 6 | Sofia | Back-line healing |
| 7 | Noctula | Fast sword follow-ups |
| 8 | Dadao | Long-range bows as Sniper |
When choosing characters, I look first at Strength or Magic growth. Around 35% is my starting point for investing in the corresponding damage path. Then I consider Speed, Dexterity, and Defense. High HP, Strength, and Dexterity suit a heavy single hit; high HP, Strength, and Speed suit follow-ups; high HP, Strength, and Defense suggest armor. If the growth spread is poor, check abilities too. Sometimes they compensate for weaknesses.
Guardian for the queen and armor for Tobias
Start
Theodora as
Soldier, then
Armored Knight, aiming for
Guardian at level 35 while continuing with lances. Her very high HP and Strength suit dealing heavy damage with one lance hit. Her higher personal growth rates are listed below; Dexterity is 40%.
| Stat | Personal growth rate |
|---|---|
| HP | 70% |
| Strength | 50% |
| Charm | 50% |
Why
Guardian? Having trained lances throughout, she avoids the investment of building Sword proficiency from scratch. Advanced seals are scarce early, and learning swords before attempting a low-chance exam can easily cost extra seals. She is also good at white magic, which
Guardian can use. A teammate already has the pure armored role, so there is no need to duplicate it completely. You must also unlock
Guardian through the story before scheduling its exam.
Tobias handles armor: Soldier,
Armored Knight, then
Dreadnought. His HP, Strength, and Defense growth fit this job, so leave blocking paths and taking hits to him.
Magic damage and Strength for Lilian
Develop
Bonaventure for spell damage, prioritizing Magic and Dexterity while considering Speed too. Magic determines damage, Dexterity helps attacks connect, and sufficient Speed allows follow-ups.
Lilian already has high Dexterity; she needs Strength. Instead of stacking more Dexterity as a Hunter, use
Gladiator,
Brigand, and
Warrior, fighting with swords. At level 20,
Upper Hand adds 3 Attack at full Hit, rising to 5 after its level-35 upgrade. That puts her abundant Hit to work. It adds Attack when the condition is met; it does not change her personal Strength growth to 45.
Flying for Lysander and healing from the back line
Lysander has enough Speed; the concern is reaching enemies without hurting them. Early on, switch from
Ornius Rider to Soldier and
Armored Knight to improve Strength, then consider
Dragoon at level 35. The team still gains a flier later without ignoring his Strength weakness along the way. Schedule cavalry Flying training early; waiting until reclassing to fill Flying proficiency is too late.
Dragoon also needs its unlock first.
Sofia handles healing. She learns
Physic at white magic B and can heal the front line from safety. She does not need to compete with melee fighters for front-line space. Focus on making use of her healing coverage and output.
Noctula follows
Gladiator, Brigand, and
Shido for sword follow-ups. Gauntlets are another option, but the intervening Warrior’s Speed does not suit my preferred approach. If you want two hits, you cannot give up too much Speed, so this setup chooses fast swords first.
Let Dadao fill the bow slot instead of adding another flier
Alexandra is appealing, but this team already has a flying slot, so she is outside the main eight. If you like her, use
Gladiator, Brigand, and Warrior to improve Strength while using swords. You can also leave her development for
Cai’s route.
The final choice is
Dadao, because the team still needs bows. Use
Hunter,
Archer, and
Sniper, pairing his higher Strength with
Longbow’s
Deadeye Combat Art for a heavy hit from afar. The long-distance use of
Longbow depends on its relevant Combat Art. Do not treat Combat Art Range as regular attack Range.
Ranger is another direction to consider once unlocked. This team is designed for a first run through the queen’s route, so it uses
Sniper to fill the ranged role first.
