Dietrich pushes forward,
Fabio attacks outside counter range, and
Yang Jie heals from afar. Rotate armor and fliers according to the enemy lineup.
Adjust roles and reserves to the enemies
Use
Dietrich up front,
Fabio for ranged spells,
Yang Jie for ranged healing, and
Esmeralda to absorb physical pressure. Add fliers, archers, or a second mage depending on how many bows and mages the map has.
Dietrich is strong, but his companions do more than watch. Let them defeat the targets they can handle safely so the frontliner can keep advancing.

Connect Dietrich’s class masteries
Go from
Gladiator to
Myrmidon for Ravaging Arts, adding 6 damage on critical hits. He crits often enough to use this frequently. If
Myrmidon mastery is complete before the next tier opens, detour into
Rogue for In Shadow: Avoid +10 in the next combat after a kill, then enter
Shido.
Shido mastery Ever Vigilant restores HP after a critical kill, healing him as he finishes enemies. Combined with In Shadow, it also improves evasion in the next combat. Choose equipped abilities around Sword proficiency, criticals, and survival. Later, replace small Strength bonuses with more useful effects such as restricting enemy movement.
Do not stack only damage in your Combat Arts. Bring options for fliers, accuracy, extra attack, or movement restriction. Save expensive strong moves for key targets. First check whether normal attacks or cheaper arts can do the job.
Change swords for enemies and carry medicine
Use
Flyssa for armor and
Zanbato for mounted enemies. Add other strong swords and a Fell Sword to build the Blaze Gauge. You do not need
Answerer for every attack.
Carry recovery items so splitting the party does not leave him waiting for a healer every turn. Let enemies approach your frontliner, but on difficult, crowded maps, keep healing and allies close enough. Do not leave him where nobody can rescue him.
Fabio’s long-range damage
Start
Fabio in
Diviner, with possible stops in
Shaman and
Priest, then favor
Ovate for advanced classes. Put growths and spell uses toward damage.
He naturally learns long-range spells and can attack from beyond many enemies’ counter range. Do not leave him until last and remember him only for finishing blows. Equip magic accuracy and black- and white-magic abilities, then expand the area that lowers enemy Dodge to support the frontliner nearby.
He lacks
Physic, so he cannot fully replace
Yang Jie. His Magic-boosting support art has helped, though. When an ally is a few damage short, that buff can reach a one-hit kill and avoid a counterattack entirely.
Esmeralda’s Pilum
Take
Esmeralda from
Armored Knight into
Dreadnought as a physical frontliner. Her
Pilum skill improves Hit and Attack and suits her own lance. Train lance proficiency and accurate Combat Arts too; do not waste a sturdy body on missed swings.
I detoured through
Brigand for the mastery that raises Avoid after missing, giving her some protection when attacks fail. Carry
Pilum,
Hammer, and other weapons for different jobs, plus healing items. Armor moves slowly, so deploy her farther forward before battle. Do not wait until
Dietrich advances to realize your tank is still chasing behind.
Yang Jie’s ranged healing
Take
Yang Jie into
Bishop and prioritize white magic. Once he has
Physic, he can care for frontliners even from the other side. Black magic adds damage, Nosferatu heals him, and a chance of full recovery after kills is an extra benefit.
Give the healer extra medicine to trade to others when needed. At the start of a turn, identify who must be healed before assigning attacks.
Fabio can fire safely from range while
Yang Jie focuses on restoring the frontliner’s HP.
Change flying flankers for the enemy lineup
Keep
Io mounted and use his protection and accuracy when initiating to draw enemies into suitable positions. Take
Mikaela through
Armored Ornius Rider for Avoid against effective attacks, then into
Wing Soldier to flank mages and relieve your armor. The Avoid bonus lowers the chance of a bow hit, but an arrow can still kill her in one shot. Do not simply drop her into archer range.
Dante adds a second spellcaster,
Noctula takes the gauntlet path,
Halvin adds ranged bows, and
Nuzzuo can use sword and bow tools. With few enemy bows and many mages, I prefer more fliers. When you need ranged answers to airborne targets, bring an archer instead.
When preparing to recruit
Goliath, take a carriage toward the desert far from towns, then use the Ringing Blade to find giants and collect Giants' Meat for recruitment.
Combat-art kills avoid counters
In one example, a normal attack dealt only 24, but a higher-might Combat Art secured a one-hit kill. Spending a little durability to deny the enemy a counter is worthwhile. Weapon upgrades can also restore durability, so plan upgrades and repairs after using it.
Advance with
Dietrich in front and allies providing healing, ranged fire, and flanking support.
Levin Sword offers ranged attacks, but enemies with matching range may counter, so check their type. Letting each character handle suitable targets works better than forcing the same eight units through identical actions on every map.
