Training Cai and Theodora’s armies: Choose damage roles, then fix gaps with mounts, Hit, and healingMinor spoilers

Cai’s story rewards mount modifiers and early recruitment. For Theodora, establish tanking, accuracy support, and healing before choosing extra recruits.

On Cai's route, prioritize early recruits and use mounts to improve growth. On the queen's route, cover tanking, accuracy support, and ranged healing first. Late recruits are better suited to filling gaps in other routes; do not retrain everyone from scratch on every route.

Choose mount modifiers to fill growth gaps

Cai's ability to capture mounts is the biggest training difference from other routes. Open assignment and inspect stat modifiers beside the mount, then check growth rates in their separate column. Peter can gain extra Dexterity growth from mounts.

That makes me favor mounted classes in Cai's story. Charioteer equips two horses, creating many combinations. Choose Strength-and-Defense horses when those stats are needed, or a Resistance mount for that weakness. Identify the gap before choosing the mount.

Cai's physical and magic damage directions

Cai's Strength growth slightly exceeds Magic, but the gap is small. I would rather improve Magic because his Blaze Arts scale with it, deal large-area damage, and break shields effectively. Train Magic to maximize that attack.

For mainly physical damage, take Ornius Rider, Armored Ornius Rider, and Charioteer, or use Dragoon for Strength and Speed. Magic requires a casting class. Cai already has movement advantages; mount Canto adds repositioning after attacks to support different areas.

Opening archers and mages

Peter gains +1 range with bow combat arts, has high Dexterity growth, and later accuracy abilities make him more reliable. For Speed, start as an archer, then Ornius Rider and Armored Ornius Rider, ending in Charioteer. The cost is losing bow access during Ornius Rider. He joins early enough for full development in Cai's story, but later elsewhere, reducing my priority.

Tialla combines early healing with black-magic damage and extends the range of combat arts used on allies. Later, initiating combat affects the enemy's Avoid in its next combat, helping open a gap. Guzran can follow Gladiator, Myrmidon, and Shido, or take mounted classes for growths in Cai's story. I strongly recommend him in both Cai's and Leda's stories.

Ultand joins only in Chapter 6 (To the Land of Cybele). His rounded stats suit support, but he lacks ranged healing and needs to approach the front. In Cai's story, train mounted first, then enter Guardian or armor for frontline work. If that role is covered, there is no need to force his training.

The queen tanks while the strategist improves accuracy

Theodora has 70 HP growth and good Strength, Speed, and Defense. I like armor, later switching to Guardian for Resistance, white magic, and ranged recovery. Cavalry also works if you want to avoid overlap, using Speed and Movement to deliver Blaze Arts where needed.

Bonaventure adds Dexterity beside allies and later gains a chance-based Hit boost. The queen's armored and high-Strength units can struggle to hit, making his support comfortable. I prefer black magic for him because he learns many spells and Sofia can handle healing. He can cover early healing shortages too.

Initial physical companions' weaknesses

Tobias has high Strength but low Speed and Dexterity, making misses a major issue. Bonaventure beside him for accuracy helps more than paper damage alone. Armor suits his strengths, but he lacks Armored Move. Cataphract permits riding with growth tradeoffs. The queen already tanks, so he is optional if you prefer another frontliner.

Lysander can dodge-tank. Build Strength first, then use Speed growth and battlefield Speed stacks after kills. The queen lacks Cai's personally raised mounts, making an intermediate Brigand period practical for Strength. Lilian has good Dexterity and Luck, more reliable Hit against enemies unable to counter, and later extra damage at 100 Hit. Strength and Speed are weak, so a period in Brigand helps too.

Early healing and damage recruits

Sofia arrives relatively early on the queen's route, offering useful healing amounts and range. Low Defense and Speed make her fragile; improve those on other routes. Yang Jie also joins early in Cai's story and has ranged healing. Train him for early healing gaps, then consider Troubadour.

Noctula has good Strength and Speed for dodge-tanking, but modest Avoid bonuses and low Resistance. Cai's mounts can add Avoid or Speed. Zarcone emphasizes Dexterity and Hit, with Bonaventure also supporting him in the queen's army. Prioritize Strength.

Halvin stacks Hit through combat and can lower enemy Speed after landing an initiating attack, making early training in Cai's story suitable. Majide has high HP and Strength but lacks Speed, Dexterity, and Resistance. He misses and falls to mages easily, so I would not prioritize him unless training everyone. Mikaela has good Strength and Speed and improves accuracy, working across several routes. In Cai's story, assign horses for her gaps.

Check activation conditions for frontline sustain

Sirocco has good physical and magic growths, with useful postbattle healing. For one route, I favor black magic first. Train swords on another, later using Levin Sword for a hybrid build. Nydine's abilities tie closely to cavalry, making Cai's mount development valuable. A temporary armored phase can add Defense too.

Dadao has high Strength and insufficient Hit. The queen's tactician helps him perform. If choosing one dodge tank on her route, I favor Loretta for the relatively stable Avoid condition at least half HP and good Speed growth.

Special tools among midgame recruits

Seteth has balanced stats. On the queen's route, he can use Brigand, Warrior, or armor; on Cai's route, he can use Charioteer. Nezha has good Strength and Speed, but recruitment requires Sandworm Meat and a dedicated desert trip on both Cai and the queen's routes. His personal skill also depends on chance, and more straightforward sword users are available around the same time, so I would not prioritize him.

Ninae suits armor. She has Armored Move and high Resistance, making her better against mages than ordinary armored units.

Nuzzuo lacks a high total growth rate, but key Strength, Speed, and Dexterity growths are excellent. He gains extra benefits against effective or super-effective targets, fitting anti-cavalry and anti-armor weapons. Cleansing Blade disables Underworld Boon; that is different from the weapon carrying effective damage.

Dante supports nearby allies' critical-related abilities and has good Magic and Speed. Low HP and Defense favor long-range black magic from behind. Alexandra has equal Strength and Magic and high Speed but weaknesses in black and white magic. Levin Sword can exploit her Magic. Her adjacent support is useful, while the Attack Speed portion requires terrain infantry cannot enter.

Use other routes to fix late recruits' weaknesses

Let early-recruitment routes handle main development

Esmeralda and Goliath arrive late in Cai's story, and Goliath also requires Giants' Meat. I would train physical combat and armor on routes where they arrive earlier, using late-arrival routes to improve Resistance and other weaknesses.

Catania needs enough level-ups to develop Attack Speed. Her late arrival on the queen's route better suits supplementing stats missing from other routes. Peppe has high Speed but low Strength and requires a paralogue. Ludia has Speed and Avoid advantages but the same late-recruitment constraint. Rather than chasing the same person on every route, let the route with early recruitment carry their main training.
