Prepare mounts first for Cai's mounted paths

Plan mounts alongside mounted training on Cai’s route: assign a mount first, then build friendship so its growth bonuses apply when leveling. Companions with low Strength, such as Peter, need a separate improvement path.

Cai's route lets you capture and assign mounts. Equip cavalry, Ornius Rider, Wing Soldier, and Dragoon units with suitable mounts wherever possible. Mounts add base stats and growth rates, with bonds worth developing further. Charioteer is distinctive because it doubles the mount's growth bonuses. If you plan to use Charioteer, prepare a horse with suitable Strength bonuses first.

Cai has balanced Strength, Magic, and Speed, making a mounted physical-and-magical path suitable: Ornius Rider, Armored Ornius Rider, and Caladrius, with High Savant in Part 3. Train Black Magic for class requirements first, then Sword. Magic handles armor while swords handle regular enemies, and mobility helps distract and divide enemy forces.

The displayed stats for this path exclude mount growth, so account for that when comparing. The Cavalier is another final option, combining lances with magical swords.

Learn ranged healing early and build Peter's Strength

Send Tialla through Diviner, Priest, and Bishop, then Wiseman in Part 3. She learns ranged healing at White Magic C, reaching that useful milestone early. Afterward, prioritize other units who need magic training more urgently.

If you want her as a Dancer in Part 3, prepare the required proficiencies during Part 1. Her increased range for Combat Arts used on allies also applies to dancing, giving 2-tile support for acting again. Starting that training from scratch in Part 3 is demanding.

Peter has the opposite problem: impressive Dexterity, but a pure Hunter → Archer → Sniper path can leave him short on Strength. Start with Gladiator and Brigand to train axes, then return to Sniper and Bow Adept. Axe training both improves Strength through class growth and prepares Axe S for mastering The Eternal, earning Strength +10 from Divine Might. Correct for Drift+ also helps axe accuracy: reach its base Hit threshold first, then receive the Hit bonus.

Once axes reach the target rank, return to bows. This plan does not need Axe S+. Train Bow and Infantry for the requirements of later classes.

Separate Ultand's and Guzran's roles

Ultand's Patch Up is useful early, restoring a little HP to adjacent allies after combat. Repeated activation in Clashes is especially comfortable. However, his low Speed and weakness in swords make sword-based Speed training demanding. His white magic also does not make the Sentinel path especially impressive.

Here I use Diviner, Shaman, Troubadour, and then Valkyrium, mainly for moving next to allies to support them. Damage is incidental, so his magic training need not take priority over other core units.

Guzran is different. Strong Strength and Speed, plus Dexterity and Luck, support critical hits. “Hot-Headed” also boosts one of Hit, Avoid, or Critical. Keep the path direct: start with Gladiator or Myrmidon, then use Brigand and Shido before Swordmaster to exploit fast physical combat.

Shido can use lances, making Short Spear convenient against distant mages and archers. Swords benefit from the class's Critical bonus. Frequent critical hits also pair well with Sacred Gem to connect offense with healing. If the late-game team lacks archers, consider Shadow Seeker or Bow Adept; Guzran's foundations support that adjustment.

Improve Hit and Defense for slow frontline units

Majide has impressive HP and Strength but low Speed and Resistance. High HP looks sturdy, yet magical follow-up attacks still hurt. Stacking Attack alone does not guarantee reliable one-hit kills. Axes also need accuracy support, potentially through a detour into Archer.

Ninae has two options. To emphasize Cai's route mechanics, use Charioteer, assign a Ferghanan Horse first, and train bows. For front-line support, build Defense through Armored Knight, Dreadnought, and Castle Knight, then fight as Sentinel. She learns ranged healing and Ward, restoring HP and reducing magical pressure on the front line.

Seteth also suits an armored path into Sentinel, but starts with better Defense. He need not copy Ninae's entire Castle Knight schedule. White magic options Resquia, Regenera, and Warp are all useful, so allow training time for them.

Improve damage on fast companions

Nydine suits mounted classes, and Cai’s route provides mounts. Along the Ornius Rider path, she has good Speed but can lack Strength, so keep training Axe. At Axe S, master The Eternal for Divine Might, turning high Speed into actual damage with Strength +10. Later, switch to High Savant to use both swords and black magic.

Alexandra is fast, but neither Strength nor Magic stands out, and Axe and Black Magic are both weaknesses. I prefer investing in Black Magic and switching her to Caladrius. Spells offer comfortable range, mounted combat provides Movement and mount benefits, and Levin Sword supplies another damage option.

Prepare a mount early and build friendship through care and battles after she joins. Train Black Magic to certification requirements first, then to S if resources allow. Master The Avatar for Magic +10 from Divine Law. She can reach it, at the cost of that training time.

Training costs for late recruits

For Benditz as Charioteer, capture and assign a Ferghanan Horse first. Compare stats alongside later mount and class growth, rather than relying on an incomplete stat table.

Peppe is very fast but lacks Strength. Switching directly to Shadow Seeker makes use of his exploration utility. Developing him as a damage dealer requires axes and Strength growth before returning to a bow class.

Diego also suffers from joining late, with stats from his Rogue development needing improvement. Use Warrior for Strength, then Shadow Seeker for exploration. A main damage role requires further Strength training. Compared with an already developed Guzran, all this catch-up work consumes resources.
