Leda, Eshmel, and Dietrich occupy the highest tier. Choose your training priorities by recruitment timing, skill combinations, and the cost of developing each character across at most two routes.

Rankings account for recruitment timing and training costs

The highest tier, 0, contains Leda, Eshmel, and Dietrich. Tier 1 characters have strong stats and skills, join in time, and perform well under different builds. Tier 2 needs more resources, multi-route merging, or mounts from Cai's story to improve growths. Characters between tiers have unique strengths worth keeping.

Plan training around two routes at most. I recommend starting with Leda or Dietrich, then playing Theodora, and saving Cai for last. Adding up growth rates does not tell you whether someone is worth training. Consider when they join, whether their skills fit their class, and whether they offer something nobody else can learn.

Lowest tier: Skills lack synergy

Zarcone has high Dexterity and can fix axe accuracy, but once he hits, where does the damage come from? His Fortify also fails to connect with his physical direction. Investing across routes makes him easier to round out. Majide is similarly awkward: Strength takes a substantial share of his growths, while Dexterity and Speed lag behind. Yet he has spells such as Warp and Freeze, making occasional boss control more interesting.

Peppe and Diego suffer from late recruitment and weak Strength. Peppe's preemptive attack is conditional, while Diego needs damage before his follow-up Hit and Critical bonuses matter. Speed and Dexterity alone struggle to solve that. Aswan arrives near the end, leaving little time to build growths from scratch. Klapka joins even later, and his default stats do not justify replacing an already trained core unit.

Tier 2.5: Limited training windows

Benditz's Hit and Onslaught count revolve around Charioteer, but he lacks Strength, Defense, and Resistance. His late arrival further limits the time to fix that. Yang Jie has passive self-healing and a white-magic list, but specializes in axes, with neither outstanding Strength nor Magic. There is also no physical class suited to both axes and white magic. Keeping the spell list means taking a magic path.

Gaitz can boost allies' defenses and has useful white magic, with a smooth Guardian to Sentinel transition. However, Part 1 is almost over when he joins. Seteth has balanced growths but no skills outstanding enough to distinguish him. Tahonia can provide temporary gauntlet damage: her default Strength and Defense are sufficient, and she has a chance to follow up regardless of Attack Speed. There is simply little room left for further development.

Tier 2: Roles and weaknesses

Alexandra has good Speed and Dexterity, similar Strength and Magic, and skills that encourage flying. Her problems are insufficient Strength and an awkward transition between spells and flying classes. For physical combat, use another route's Brigand to build Strength. Io's cavalry and armored movement skills suit Great Knight, but she joins at level 20 and has unremarkable early combat. Train her in reserve first. Simon has good HP and Strength, but his Luck passive becomes easier to trigger later, standing out more in boss fights than ordinary combat.

Ultand joins early with high total growths, and his passive extends sustain in labyrinths. His spells and offensive skills do not stand out as much. Nydine has Pass, cavalry movement, and Resquia, fitting a highly mobile magic role that pulls slower allies forward. Improve Defense and Resistance on another route if you want to cross enemy lines. Lysander has decent Strength, Speed, and Defense, but his Avoid stacks slowly and his skills offer modest returns. He does not justify a dedicated second route. Jester has very high Speed and can turn Avoid into attack, but joins late, requires three recruitment battles, and takes substantial investment to fix Strength.

Tialla's Tactician’s Wit extends allies' combat-art range, even enabling Dance at two spaces. But training swords, bows, and Infantry despite her weaknesses, then abandoning her existing healing role for those two spaces, is expensive. She also has weak Defense and Speed. Not every army needs this build. Bonaventure boosts adjacent allies' stats, but his own Magic and spell list do not support a higher rating.

Although Centurio joins late, his initial attack and defense let him step straight in. He can keep using armor or switch to an elephant. Halvin's high Dexterity does not align well with his Strength and stacking skills. Ludia has Speed and Avoid but low initial Strength that is costly to fix. Fianna has excellent Magic but no Physic, and recovering spell uses through Luck is not often necessary. Use her from reserve when you need healing; for damage, consider Levin Sword to exploit her Magic.

Tier 1.5: Range and Avoid

Lilian has weak Strength and Speed early, but later gains Hit against enemies unable to counter, extra damage at full Hit, and infantry skills. Part 3 enemies have high Avoid, making reliable hits valuable. Take Hunter, Archer, and Sniper on the main route, then Gladiator, Brigand, and Warrior on a secondary route for Strength before choosing a final bow class. Inyoni is the reverse: strong but slow, with extra damage and Critical for bows and combat arts. Chariots or Ranger work, but do not miss Archer's Hit mastery in Part 3.

Sha Lan can use support magic after Draw Back. When surrounding a boss, she can clear a space and then keep healing. Adjacent Accelerate and a rich white-magic list are useful. If Sofia occupies the healing role, switch her to Sentinel. Catania and Loretta can both stack Avoid, with Strength as their weakness. Train Catania in Ranger during Leda's story and magic during Theodora's, then use Levin Sword after merging. Loretta's full-HP Avoid is more consistent, and she can build Strength and Magic similarly. If training both, I prefer one to Dance and the other to use Levin Sword.

Ursula's most interesting feature lets nearby allies access the item bag. Switch effectiveness talismans for different foes or take Pure Water against mages. That ability to change equipment midbattle matters more than her own stats, and Dancer suits her too. Nezha's attack buffs favor physical combat; I prefer gauntlets. Noctula can combine gauntlet Avoid with equipment, using her early recruitment to train physical combat on one route and Speed or chariot base stats on another.

Tier 1.5: Tanking and support

Tobias concentrates on HP, Strength, and Defense, fitting an elephant. Dadao also favors physical durability, with later skills emphasizing extra damage; Cai's chariots can improve his bases. Goliath can restrict movement after contact with an enemy, holding a strong foe that charges him until your core units arrive. He has low Movement and needs Warp. Buccar has Armored Move and suitable growths, though his chance-based skills are less impressive. Armor, chariots, and elephants are all options.

Nuzzuo gains bonuses from effective matchups. Pairing him with Ursula to swap talismans extends that advantage. He has good HP, Strength, Speed, and Dexterity but weak Defense and Resistance. Kiroc gains damage and Critical against enemies with status effects, pairing with Venin Bow, Poisonbone Chain, and Poisonhunt Gem. To recruit him early, buy Pure Water on the world map beforehand rather than waiting until recruitment triggers to find materials.

Creek has strong initial stats and physical growths. Do not lock her into cavalry just because she is good at riding: she can fill sword or bow gaps, and her white magic also supports Guardian and Sentinel. Nathan has high Strength and low Speed, fitting one powerful strike. Hong Hua has Bolting, Thoron, Warp, Resquia, and terrain-creating spells, offering many magic uses. But she arrives in Part 3, when trained Fabio and Olympia already occupy those spots.

Ninae has decent Defense and Resistance bases, armored movement, and infantry Canto, so armor can build her durability. Staying armored forever makes her Hit and Avoid passives and white magic less useful. I prefer armor as a transition before returning to Sentinel. Dante can stay in the back and boost allies' Critical. The buff scales with the ally's Charm, making it subtle early but much better with high-Charm Dietrich later. Train black magic for his own damage.

Tier 1: Unique range skills are hard to replace

Peter is weak early and can lack Strength, but later gains +1 bow combat-art range and Hit bonuses. Strength can be fixed through Cai's chariots, a secondary-route Warrior, and Divine mastery. Unique range cannot be conjured out of nothing. My plan is Hunter into chariots in Cai's story, with Gladiator, Brigand, and Warrior on another route. Train swords alongside them to prepare for a later Strength mastery. Finish in Bow Adept, or give him The Calamity.

Jasmine has Hit and Critical when attacking second, useful armored movement, and an easier time with lances than axes. Use armor in Leda's main route, then train Speed and Dexterity in Cai's story alongside chariot and mount bonuses. Mikaela can start training immediately, has movement skills for both armor and infantry, and gains Hit and attack up close. Once her Defense is ready, build Resistance on another route. In Part 3, either Castle Knight or wyverns can hold off reinforcements. If she competes with Esmeralda for the armored slot, training swords and bows and using Mini Bow is strong too.

Do not overlook Guzran because of his appearance. He joins early, has well-distributed physical growths, and useful sword, gauntlet, and infantry skills. Random boosts to Hit, Avoid, or Critical are all valuable. Build Speed on one route and Strength on another, and he can fight with swords or gauntlets. Bertrand has a high axe ceiling, and the Crimson Tiger's domination can handle Underworld Boon. His passive triggers inconsistently, though, making fully invested boss fights a better showcase than routine cleanup.

Orchel joins with very tough Defense and Resistance and heals himself when healing allies. His default healer role is already safe, so save Divine slots for units who need them more. Mu has a growth advantage and useful swords, axes, gauntlets, white magic, and movement skills. If choosing one person for multi-route merging, choose Mu: use Leda as the main route and Cai for chariot bonuses.

Tier 0.5: Strong finished builds with sustain

Sirocco has good Strength, Magic, Speed, Dexterity, and durability, restores 5 HP after battle, and has both infantry skills and white magic. He works well on one route; use a secondary route to improve stats if you want more. Train swords and bows in Leda's story and black magic in Dietrich's, ultimately focusing on swords with both physical weapons and Levin Sword.

Esmeralda has good HP, Strength, and Defense. Weight reduction plus throwing Hit and attack bonuses, harpoons, and her personal weapon let her handle ranged damage. Flying on her main route can hold off reinforcements, while armor on the secondary route adds Strength and Defense. Reversing the routes may yield better final stats through mount growths, but also crowds out other characters' early armored roles.

Troy's personal gauntlets deal magic damage and are effective against fliers, putting both his Strength and Magic growths to use. Continuing through War Monk or switching to The Godhand both work smoothly. Anatolia has Avoid, recovery after dodging, increased maximum HP after kills, and a rich spell list, fitting black-magic paths such as Ovate and Druid.

Olympia can stack magic Critical with Nosferatu bonuses for both damage and healing. On Leda's route, take white magic early when healing is scarce, then switch to black magic after recruiting Sofia. I prefer improving Speed and Dexterity on her secondary route. Fabio has Mire B, Death Γ, Luna Λ, and Dark Spikes T. Other characters learning them through items does not make him fully replaceable. Those items are limited, so naturally knowing the spells remains valuable.

Sofia is a healer who works immediately on recruitment. She heals large amounts and gains healing range through level skills, letting her cover both sides when the army splits. She needs no dedicated merging and performs directly on all four routes. That convenience earns her high placement.

Tier 0.5: The tactical value of Blaze Arts

Theodora already has good HP, Strength, and Defense, and her Blaze Art adds long-range projection. Against troublesome stationary bosses, keep a healer with her and attack repeatedly from range. Since Tobias already handles armor and elephants on her route, riding or flying better avoids duplicate roles.

Cai has balanced growths, several movement skills, useful area Blaze damage, and ways to protect allies. I prefer mounted physical combat alongside Levin Sword, though magic can also strengthen his Blaze Arts. Talimun focuses on lowering enemy Hit, Attack Speed, and Luck at long range, or swapping Strength with Magic and Defense with Resistance. Do not force him into frontline combat. Stay safely behind and reshape boss fights with spells and Blaze Arts.

Tier 0: Three core protagonists

Leda can buff areas, control enemies, grant effectiveness against netherfiends, and provide one area refresh. She does not have to stay in Dancer forever. Let her deal damage with swords and bows and give Dancer to someone else for another source of extra actions. For maximum optimization, hold back her levels until Dancer growths become available. Even with ordinary development, her support is already powerful.

Eshmel is balanced across the board and can train skills while fighting across all routes. Light of Salvation disables Underworld Boon on nearby enemies. I prioritize reaching the fight quickly: fly or ride into the combat area, clear enemies with Blaze Arts, then make room for allies. He does not have to occupy a Divine slot.

Main-unit kills and experience distribution

Dietrich excels in Speed, Dexterity, Critical, and follow-ups. Bestial Impulse adds more Critical, and Sacred Gem lets him recover through kills and keep advancing. If his Strength grows poorly early on, Levin Sword still deals damage; later use Brigand and Warrior to improve Strength. After getting the Divine masteries you need, return to Swordmaster and free the Divine slot for someone else. Experience distribution is the real concern: he kills so quickly that others may struggle to get any training.
